This is a story I wrote to share my dreams with the Palestinian kids from Bethlehem (the city of King David, not of Jesus).
I'll tell you the other side of the story, which you might not have learned from your parents or teachers.
Before I begin I'd like to say that despite everything I don't hold any grudge towards any Palestinians or non-jews. Your situation might seem unfair, but only telling one side of the story is what's really unfair. Therefor, I really hope you will read this and that this doesn't get censored, since usually the media (which is said to be controlled by the jews) is telling a one-sided story in favor of the Palestinians.
Among the jewish people I know there are holocaust-survivors, people from asia and africa who seek a better life in Israel, people who lost their family due a Palestinian suicide bombing attack, etc. There are too many unfair stories to tell, so I'll limit it to the one that hurts me most; getting blamed for Israeli political actions, and more importantly: getting blamed for being a jew.
My family is originally from Tunis, Tunesia. Unlike Maroc (who still has quite some jewish-arabs living there), Tunis has helped the Nazis by handing over jews to them. Fortunatly, my family survived that. But when my father was 6 years old they were forced to leave Tunesia because jews weren't welcome anymore. So a part of my family moved to Marseille and Paris in France. My grandfather and father couldn't stay there, so they imigrated by boat to Atlit (near Haifa) in Israel.
Like everyone, they have served the army. My grandfather is actually quite famous with a special war strategy, because in those days the surrounding Arab countries, (Egypt, Lebanon, Jordan, Syria) with the support of the Soviet Union, didn't hold back to attack Israel in a brutal and unfair way (for example on Yom Kippour, a jewish holliday). Usually these Arab nations don't agree on a single point with eachother, but they all dislike Israel thus "Arab-unity" was created. They wanted to help their Arab-Palestinian brothers, or did they? Maybe they didn't want to take care of the growing Palestinian population which was now in their country. Anyhow, Israel won all the wars miraclously. My father has served in the Sinaii dessert, which was given back to Egypt in return for acknoledgement from Egypt (something that wasn't appreciated much by the population there, even until this day).
On June 27, 1976, four terrorists forced an Air France Airbus to land in Uganda on the Entebbe airport. They demanded that Israel should release 53 convicted terrorists. The hijackers freed the French crew and non-jewish passengers, while retaining 105 jewish and Israeli hostages. A 48*-hour deadline was set before executions would begin. My grandfather was one of those people in the plane, since he was heading towards his family in France. But once again, against all odds, the Israeli Defence Force freed the hostages to safety.
The most unfair thing that hurts me most is when lies are being told. In Europe there was a long time when people believed that jews eat children, poison water, only think of money, etc. Jews are being accused of being communists by capitalists and being capitalists by communists, which makes clear how rediculous all these discriminating statements are. Everywhere you go, the jews are to blame for.
Even in recent times you hear people say that jews shoot Palestinian children for fun, when in fact this has never happend. I'm not saying nobody gets killed, but when somebody attacks you- don't you have the right to defend yourself? An Israeli soldier can only act when his life is in danger and if he breaks this rule, he'll go to jail like any other criminal. As for the terrorists, they don't know any rules. They blow themselves up with as many people (doesn't even matter if they are jewish or Arabic) as possible (preferably children, since they are the new generation), yet we get blamed for being killers. I know that the terrorists aren't representable for every Palestinian, but you do get trained by them without realising it yourself perhaps. Believing the repeating lies like "they occupied our country" and "they killed another baby" will eventualy make your hate explode. If Israel really wanted to destroy the Palestinians, they could've done it years ago with their military power, yet they are always (and the Palestinian attacks haven't stopped in the last 50 years) trying to make a solution to achieve peace.
In 1948, we didn't force you to leave. It's because the Arabs started a war that our land expanded. That this might worry you is understandable, but you can't blame the jews for that. We didn't force you to leave your homes, we didn't put you in refugee camps. You went there yourselves because you believed the lies that were told by the Palestinian leaders that were used as a strategic move (it was said the jewish army raped women and killed children, which later was proven to be false).
To be honest, I'm glad that Arafat is gone. I don't hate him as a person and I don't like talking bad about the dead, but he was a corrupt leader who didn't want to help the peace proces. Now, with the new leader Abbas, my dream for the future is that the Palestinians realise that the enemy (much as in the Netherlands) is within themselves: terrorism. Once you are freed of this evil, jews and Arabs can live among eachother in peace again.
I don't think that creating a Palestinian state will lead towards peace at the moment, since there are still terrorists who won't stop with their hate and violence. They'll keep demanding unrealistic goals and won't stop the attacks until every jew is gone. They don't care about their own life anymore (because they are willing to give it up for a sin -killing-), so how can they care for the Palestinian cause? They are blinded because of the way they were trained, and I surely hope that more and more people will open their eyes and search for a solution, rather than just blaming a religion, race, people or individuals (like Sharon or even Bush).
People say things and act without thinking of what results it will bring. When you have something to say, make sure your facts are right. Ignorance is the greatest enemy of all time. False prejudiced views have not only lead to the destruction of 6 million jews in Europe, it has caused every war in human history. We as a people should stop feeling the need to blame others. Looking in the mirror can't hurt to expand your views and maybe this way, we can find a solution.
