Van Dam appears ready to jump from WWE to TNA

BY BLACKJACK BROWN

Fans have been hoping for it, WWE has been worried about it and Rob Van Dam has been looking forward to it.

Van Dam's contract will expire in a few weeks, and it now appears almost certain that he will accept an offer from TNA Wrestling to become the new top star in the company. Word is WWE bosses were concerned that Van Dam would jump, but they were comfortable they ultimately could get a deal done. But Van Dam has turned down a number of offers from WWE, and no matter how creative or generous they have been, the answer keeps coming back no.

Van Dam should get used to losing matches, as WWE will use him to put over new stars. Snitsky is the first of many to knock off Van Dam on TV, and word is Snitsky is on his way to ''Raw'' to challenge John Cena.

AROUND THE RING: Spike TV is very upset with TNA about the constant acts of violence by men against women. Ms. Brooks taking a guitar shot from Jeff Jarrett was the last straw. Look for big changes in what is televised on Spike. ... The Sandman might be next in line to get the pink slip from WWE bosses. All the old ECW stars are considered to be on a slippery slope. ... TNA is looking to sign Test and A-Train in the next month. ... HHH is working toward a return in late July. Word is if he can get back by then, WWE will put him in a match for ''SummerSlam.'' ... WWE is looking to make the move to high-definition TV by the end of the year. All TV eventually will be in HD, but by being proactive, WWE might pick up some casual fans who will come back just to see the shows in HD. ... WWE continues to mismanage the career of Chris Benoit. There is a perception that Benoit isn't strong enough on the microphone to maintain main-event feuds, but he is the best wrestler in the business. Someone should tell WWE that good matches seem hard to come by these days.
