Technology Rumor: Shenmue I and II being remade on the Wii.

#1
Normally we'd take a rumor like this gently by the hand, walk it outside of the house, and then run back in while locking the door behind us. However, there is some historic rational for this piece of gossip. In their Rykten (i.e. Rumor) section, Swedish magazine Game Reactor said Sega is looking to remake Shenmue I and II on the Nintendo Wii with – surprise! – extra Wiimote-related minigames. (You can view the scan here.)

Sega has been reviving quite a few franchises on the Wii lately, including NiGHTS, Sega Bass Fishing, Samba de Amigo and House of the Dead. Still, there isn't much traction for this rumor, so for now it's just a lead pipe dream.

wow. Wii is technically not much better than Dreamcast and xbox so I doubt it's even worth buying. If it came with some extra story or something then I would get that wii-shit.
If some new Shenmue came out on xbox360 or ps3 that would rock :D

I hope somebody somewhere is working on Shenmue III right now.. :)
I second that.

If this happens, it seems like Sega would consider bringing Shenmue III to the Wii also.

It would actually make sense, in that if you finished Shenmue I on the Dreamcast and then got Shenmue II on the xbox, there was no way of transferring the items that you had collected during the first game. I had Shenmue II on the Dreamcast and xbox so it didnt make any difference to me, but most didnt have the DC version of Shenmue II.

So to have all three on the same console would be tight, and if this rumor is true - I'm gonna get me a Wii.

wtf, Wii graphics aren't that bad, they're better than fucking PS2/Xbox graphics. Also the Wiimote is the most powerful controller in the world. You know that the Wiimote has a 1024x768 infra-red camera in it, more powerful than any web cam that has been made. This is really important technology because it allows use of Headtracking. Why is headtracking important? because it allows games to be made with VR3D.

This guy has just been contracted by EA and they have all ready started making games with this technology.

Can your PS3 or 360 do this? No.

People under estimate how powerful Wii's technology really is.

Yeah, I agree with Gotti. It's partially Nintendo's fault though. They've always marketed to a younger demographic and it can hinder in areas even though it helps in others.

Wii graphics are somewhat similar to those of first xbox.
Sure controller is "different" and fun to play with for a few hours but.. I don't care about how technically it's controller is good and all because I can't stand Wii graphics. Ande even if you want to concentrate on that controller, it makes playing multiplatform games less enjoyable for me and less healthy than on xbox or ps.
Also, we live in the 360/ps3/modern pc graphics era. Playing wii is like going back to 2002 with a fancy controller to me.

Playing wii is like going back to 2002 with a fancy controller to me.
This sums up exactly how I feel too. I recognize the Wii as a great console, it's just not for me. When I play games I'm about the games, but crossovers where you take a real-life thing and turn it into a game where it's not quite like the real thing but not quite like a game either, I'd much rather go for either extreme. Either I play football with my body or with a hand controller, but I don't wanna be moving in the couch and shit. Then I could just as well go out and play.

It's like this new rock band thing. Merging concepts for lazy assholes that are too sucky to be good at either real life counter pieces. I may be a little bit of a music elitist but I hate the concept. I'm just waiting for the first ever famous band that started out as friends playing rock band, it's just bound to happen. More so than Idol, this is gonna keep turning music into a make-it-in-1-2-3 thing. If you want to be all about the rock band either get off your ass and learn how to play or come to grips that you'll never be a star on stage. There's a real guitar, air guitar, and not playing at all. It annoys me that people who can't do either find some convenient way to fit in between those. Fuck those people.

This is why I wished Nintendo had used the orignal concept name of "Revolution" instead of changing it to the lame "Wii." Becuase it is revolutionary, and not many people realize it.

Also Preach, the development team who were behind Guitar Hero 1 & 2 as well as Rock Band and the upcoming sequel to that, mostly consist of actual musicians. These people have bands and inculde songs from them in each game as bonus tracks, and they're trying to incorporate real life drumming into Rock Band 2 with some fancy drum trainer mode. And I actuallly can play real guitar, before these games, of course I'll also admit, I don't think I'm very good. :D

well yeah, i've played guitar hero myself and it was hella fun, but the very fact that it's out there is another thing that lowers the probability that i, or anybody else, will ever feel the need to pick up an actual guitar.

it's probably just a compulsive thing on my part, but i can't help but think that it's wrong. i'm generally not for inventions that make things easier to do than they already are. life is easy enough as it is. we don't need play-guitars for people who suck too much to play real guitars. this is why people is different. one person is a great physicist, the next a great football player, the next a great musician. with games like these, coupled with the overall mass of simplifying inventions we get thrown at us like strawberry jam in a tube, everything seems to be taking a wrong turn. we already have social problems in the western world that most people would agree are due to facts like parents haven't been hard enough on kids the past decade, certain criminals have been given more slack than they should by the justice system, i watch people around me who are never really "put to the test" in life. they never have to wait a year for their loved ones to return from somewhere, they never have to go out and risk their life, they never have to do shit. myself included have such a happy and easy life that instead of recognizing real problems (that i don't have), we start creating problems. we're already there, this "social evolution" has been ongoing for half a century. in that context, you probably understand why i have a problem with the game lol. if no one ever said it out loud people wouldn't be missing shit and the world would still be the same as it was before. it's not something we need. in the end there'll be no great physicians, no great football players, no great musicians, just a bunch of mediocre people who learned their science from Spore, their music from Rock Band and their sports from FIFA. Excelling at nothing in real life. it'll be beyond my lifetime probably, but i really care about music so it's mostly having to stomach a bunch of rotten ass bands that WILL start popping up in the next two or three years. Don't you just see the creators of the game making some quick feature where you can upload performances to YouTube and shit? It's gonna start a whole new trend, and spending lots of time doing music related shit I'll have to get it shoved in my face for sure.

I don't think these games are contributing to the downfall of society, I do know a person who plays nothing but fucking Guitar Hero, he's pretty good, but I do worry fot the guy.

These games first started in Japan with Konami's GuitarFreaks and Drumania, and these games have had the same effect as Dance Dance Revoltuon, playing DDR won't make you a great dancer, it'll just make you look fucking stupid and get you addicted to Red Bull.

It's all recreational, and I do think 1 kid out of a possible 20 will pick up an actual instrument, maybe not one of these super good freaks, because they can't handle the embrassment of not being good at the real thing. I do find it funny though that some bands LOVE the game Rock Band, I read an interview where the band Rush proclaimed that they play it, and I just wondered how fucking weird that looks, especially if you were playing against some kid who kicked your ass at your song, total mindfuck.

The Wii is not for real gamers imo. who gives a shit if it sells more. and i know there are fat motherfuckers out there who think that playing the Wii is adequate excercise.

as for Shenmue. I dont think Sega will bring out Shenmue 3. Shenmue 1 and 2 both cost a lot to make and didnt sell that well.

Preach, I totally agree.

Fuck Guitar Hero and Rock Band bullshit. It's encouraging kids to be lazy and not learn to actually play instruments in my opinion.

I was pissed off at Snoop. I was watching his reality show and his kids were playing Guitar Hero. He walked in and said something like

"The fuck is this? Niggaz don't be playing guitars. Jimi Hendrix been dead!"

For someone that claims to be all about the funk and idolizes great black musicians such as George Clinton and Bootsy Collins, and even HAS a black guitar player in his own band, I found that shit to be ignorant as all hell. And the kids weren't even playing the guitar, it was a god damn video game!

In a lot of ways, hip-hop killed real black musicianship. And it wasn't meant to go that way, but fast forward 20 years and we're subjected to fucking bullshit like Soulja Boy.

There was a time when the all the baddest musicians on the planet were all black. On guitar, you had people like Roger Troutman, Hendrix, Ernie Isley, Prince, Eddie Hazel. Bass players like Bootsy Collins and Victor Wooten. Keyboardists like Bernie Worrell.

While bullshit like Guitar Hero is making white kids lazy too, they've still got their instrument-playing role models at the forefront of the rock genre. The black kids don't, so as if that wasn't a big enough problem, these bullshit video games are making it even worse.

Wow, that turned into a bit of a rant.
