MARSH APOLOGISES AFTER SACKING
Rodney Marsh has apologised for offensive comments made on air about the Asia tsunami disaster.

The former Queens Park Rangers and Manchester City striker has had his contract terminated by Sky Sports after making the remarks as a pundit on Monday night's You're on Sky Sports programme.

Sky officials met this morning and decided Marsh's comments were "inexcusable".

The 60-year-old, who was known for his outspoken views on football, insisted he did not intend to offend viewers with his comments.

Marsh told the Press Association: "I apologise unreservedly for any offence I caused by my thoughtless and inappropriate comment I made last night.

"My intention was to make a light-hearted football joke."

A Sky Sports spokesperson said: "We have today ended Rodney Marsh's contract with Sky Sports.

"The decision was made this morning, following a review of his comments on last night's edition of 'You're on Sky Sports'.

"During the live night-time phone-in Rodney made comments that were offensive and inexcusable.

"An apology was made within the programme and Rodney's comments were edited and removed from later transmissions.

"These remarks should never have been made and Sky would like to offer its apologies to those who were offended."

Marsh's future in sport broadcasting is now unclear, and he added: "I entirely respect Sky Sports' position and would add my apology to everyone concerned at Sky.

"I would like to take this opportunity to thank my colleagues and senior executives who have been brilliant to me and always supported me during my time at Sky.

"I am hugely disappointed in myself for letting them down."
Anybody know what he exactly said?
I saw the show, and heard him say someting about the tsunami but didnt quite catch it.

Apparently he made the "David Beckham doesn't want to go to Newcastle because of the Toon Army/Tsunami" joke.

Not only is it in bad taste, but it's an awful joke.

Off course thats racist!

It's not. It's a book by Agatha Christie. It's not about the colour of someone's skin.
And anyone who thinks Mclintock should get in trouble for it is an idot. How Politically Correct can you get!!!

As for Rodney Marsh, that was a funny Joke!! It wasn't anything to do with the victims of the recent Tsunami disaster, it took the piss out of Beckham. Tsunami is a word that means tidle wave, they happen very often, several times a year especially in Africa. but who gives a fuck about Africa, No white people from the UK or US die in their Tsunami's, so it isn't reported. People need to quit being so sensitive. Rodney Marsh shouldn't have said it on TV, too many cocks at home with nothing better to do, or nothing that concerns them enough to keep them occupied, so they complain. A bit like the Christian groups who complained about Jerry Springer the Musical on BBC2.
The real victims of the tsunami didn't complain, they have more problems to deal with than a little joke.
As for Ron Atkinson, he deserved all he got.

It's a book about 10 people that vanished.
Basically saying spurs players are hiding. i.e showing no backbone.

Does no-one on this board read?

Also several people have been sacked for quoting this book on TV or at conference, yet the people who done it are over 50 and don't realise the impact of the word, unlike todays generation. To them it's primarily the title of a book and a racist word second.

So...

That isn't the point I'm debating. Calling someone a Paki is racist, quoting a book isn't. If you think that is the same you are mistaken.
Ron I def. agree with. Marsh was an idiot, but the joke was funny. McLintock quoted a well known, well read book, although it's probably not used in schools anymore. It's a shame we all act so PC these days.

No book exists with that title. That's a stupid comparison to make.
Frank made a mistake quoting that book, but that doesn't make him a racist so he shouldn't be punished in any way.
And calling someone from pakistan, a paki, isn't racist, it's when you call someone from that region a paki, with racist undertones.

There is a book with that title! and you just said frank made a mistake why? cuz you know some might see that as racist? ye like some 10 year old black girl who hears that word at school and is wondering why a respected football pundit said it on tv, and your last bit about undertones well you have lost me.
