PlayStation 3 Pricing Announced

Sony has announced that it’s next-generation console, the 40 gigabyte PlayStation 3, will sell for at least US$499 when it comes out in November this year. The 60 gigabyte edition will cost even more in the US, priced at US$599.


The prices are much higher than that of Sony’s rival, Microsoft’s Xbox, which sells for US$299 or US$399 if bought with a hard drive. The PlayStation 3 is equipped with IBM and Toshiba’s “Cell” processor, which 35 times faster than the PS2.


It is also about double the speed of the new Xbox 360. Technical difficulties have delayed the release of the PS3, which had been initially set to release this month.

by the looks of it,PS3 is far more superior than XBOX 360.PS3 will have blue ray,xbox 360 has a standard DVD drive.Although microsoft will have an external HD DVD drive you can buy,people would rather buy something all inclusive than buy a separate drive.Blue ray also has more support for its blue ray technology from movie studios and game developpers than HD DVD has.Which console is going to be superior? In my opinion,it all boils down to who wins the blue ray vs HD DVD war.I remember when the PS2 first came out,people were buying that instead of a DVD player because it wasnt that much more expensive than a DVD player,and you could play games on it.

Couldn't agree more, gonna hold back a while before I buy one of the next gens.

Pretty fucking pricey if you ask me, but I do think PS3 superior to the 360 from the very little that I've heard and read.

I've yet to see anything on the 360 that takes my breath away, which is what I expect - new consoles are supposed to set new standards.

^ the hard drive is important because the PS3 is also a media center.you'll be able to download and store music videos on it,which you can then watch on the t.v.Alot of games will have features that let you connect to the net and download mods,patches,etc...the price is gonna take a long ass time to come down,you're going to be waiting a while.one of the reasons its that "expensive" is because of the blue ray drive.once cheaper drives are on the market,sony can lower its costs.they are actually losing a few hundred dollars on the console.
