Owen to United?

If United can get him, it'll be a great addition to the squad.

Real Madrid's Owen knocks on Man Utd door

Real Madrid striker Michael Owen has approached Manchester United about bringing him back to the Premiership.

The Sun says Owen has told Manchester United to come and get him.

The Real Madrid and England striker used a middleman to contact Old Trafford boss Alex Ferguson.

Owen sounded out Liverpool about a return to Anfield last week, but Reds boss Rafa Benitez was unenthusiastic about the proposal.

He now hopes Ferguson will try for him as he desperately seeks a return to England and regular first team football.

Owen is a good player, but Man Utd will have 6 strikers.

RVN
Rooney
Smith
Saha
Solskjear
Owen

If Owen joins, Saha should be sold. He's a good player but is injury prone.

they will keep smith as they saying he will replace keane

Sir Alex Ferguson has finally accepted that Alan Smith could be viewed as a full-time midfield option, and even a possible replacement for ageing captain Roy Keane.

The tigerish former Leeds United striker arrived from Elland Road last summer with Ferguson insisting Manchester United only wanted to consider him as an out-and-out forward.

Smith started the season brightly when handed the responsibility of leading the line but faded from the picture in the latter stages of the campaign and did not even get off the bench during the FA Cup final with Arsenal.

The England international played the second half of the 6-0 friendly romp against Peterborough United wearing the number four shirt and played in a holding midfield role behind Paul Scholes and Ryan Giggs.

Within seconds of his introduction, Smith added an element of aggression to the proceedings and his performance had Ferguson purring afterwards as United scored all six goals after the break.

"We see a lot of potential for him too," Ferguson told Sky Sports News. "He's only 24.

"He's young and obviously it's something we're possibly looking at in terms of maybe the replacement for Roy eventually. We keep talking about it.

"You don't get Roy Keanes obviously but Alan Smith is Alan Smith and he brings a different type of character than Roy."

With Giuseppe Rossi pressing hard to join in-form Ruud van Nistelrooy, Wayne Rooney and Louis Saha in the striking slots, the logical solution for Ferguson would be to withdraw Smith to midfield, particularly if he is unsuccessful in any attempt to land Bayern Munich's Michael Ballack.

lol@him leaving liverpool and then liverpool winning the CL
yeah but he left for a better Club, Madrid won the Champions Legue twice in the last 5years, but he was stupid to do so, they already had

2000 - Madrid
2001 - Bayrn Munich
2002 - Madrid
2003 - Ac Milan
2004 - Porto
2005 - Liverpool

Plus what was he think when he signed to Madrid? did he really expect any play time with a team with 3 Highly ranked Strikers?

Ronaldo
Raul
Morrientes

All three ranked before him in the team start up, so why go there and expect much play time?

You don't need to lay out the previous winners man, I'm pretty sure everyone knows at least the recent history.

And Morientes, while a top striker, had just spent a season on loan at Monaco & there was heavy speculation that he would be leaving - which he did obviously - so Owen would only be behind 2 strikers.

And at the time, it wasn't so much that Real looked capable of winning the competition & Liverpool didn't, but rather Liverpool didn't look capable of even passing the group stages.

As such, Owen set out to play with a team who looked more likely to aid the fulfilment of his ambitions. And he gets to train with some of the best players & coaches in the world in some of the best facilities in the world. Not to mention he gets to test himself in a different league & really prove himself to the world.

Owen actually started the last 10-15 games for Real Madrid or something, he finsihed their 2nd top scorer behind Ronaldo.

Right now

Owen > Raul but Ronaldo > Owen

But with Robinho signing it will be Robinho > Owen
