Japanese console maker Nintendo has announced that its next-generation gaming console, the Nintendo Wii, will start at US$250 or less in the United States, or 25,000 yen or less in Japan – cutting its rivals in some cases by half.
Nintendo hopes to sell at least six million Wiis globally by March next year. The console is due out at the end of this year, competing directly with the more-expensive PlayStation 3, which will debut in November.
The Nintendo Wii is key to the company’s survival, as they just posted a 19 percent slide in quarterly profits and made profit warnings regarding the fiscal year.
