I'm torn between if I should get a laptop or a desktop. I have a desktop at the moment. Nothing wrong with it. Really it just going to boil down to what deal i can get, if I can get a cheap ass laptop thats top notch then i will and same goes for the desktop.

I want an i7 core processor. I'm sure an i5 will do just fine as well. I don't really even know the difference between em to tell the truth. I'm thinking I don't even need an i7 now that I think of it. Anywho, masta I'm looking at you, if oyu know any good deals or anything to recommend let me know. and fuck a mac

It depends on your budget and your needs, what do you need your PC to do.
Also, if it comes to laptop vs. desktop:
Desktops are more comfortable to use, more future-proof, cheaper and faster than laptops (even if specs say otherwise because mobile versions of hardware are always a bit slower to reduce space taken, energy consumption and heat). Laptops steal less space and are portable.

So basically it all comes down to how much do you want to spend and your needs - whether it'll be used for games, graphics, heavy processing of anything, movies or just casual work and internet.

Aw masta dont give me the sales guy talk. Im just looking for an all around good machine. I play games, i watch movies, i fuck with graphics, i do homework, i use the internet, i code shit on occasion etc... But a price range would be nice wouldn't it. I'm thinking 1000-1500. I could go more if it's a good deal

Have you looked at cyberpower and ibuypower.com? I looked there at one point. They are pretty cheap.

If you're up to the challenge of building your own machine you'll get way more power for the money.

Yeah the comp I have now I built a couple years back, I can do it again but I'm lazy and don't really have the time to do to tell the truth. That is definitely the best way to go but Imma have to buy a dell or something

I think HP are offering better deals than Dell right now. It fluctuates all the time though, but I was just looking at desktops the other day.

Yeah I started looking at some HP's today, they look mighty nice. I'm almost leaning towards that Beats by Dre HP laptop they have, its based solely on looks though, can get that hardware in just about anything, but the black and red combo, red backlit keyboard, shits nice

I asked because it's important while balancing your harware, whether you need a stronger GPU or a stronger CPU, more memory or whatever else.

Aren't there custom built PCs out there? Hands down the best way is to find a shop where you could pick parts that you want and then make them build your PC. It'll be much more reliable, better and cheaper.
Then there's a nerdy rule that whoever spends more than 1500$ for a all-around rig is a rich fool ;)
You can get a PC that will do everything for that price if you build it that way.
Dells and HPs with similar specs will be either more expensive or built from inferior parts.

This thread is full of great suggestions:
1500 dollar budget for gaming PC, review my list and make it better/cheaper.

And if you don't want to read into it too much then this set seems to be pretty much optimal for that price:
The OptionKey Blog: Production Computer for $1500 Budget
If you don't need a new OS then you could buy 4gb extra ram but it won't be really needed any soon.
That set above already comes with a case with built in PSU which is good enough but it's always a smart choice to buy a high end PSU (not of higher power, but from a better company - more reliable).
Buy yeah, if you don't want to mess with it too much then going for that set from that link above would be good.

I don't know about these HP and Dell sets and deals on them. They are not popular amongst people who know anything about computers :p

I can attest to the fact that HP is shit. I am never buying their shit products ever again. I'm typing this on a Dell that lasted longer than the HP laptop I had. And this Dell has handled itself like a champ.

We have a Sony VAIO from 2002..2003? Maybe 2001. Came with XP. Still running to this day. And Sony was supposed to be shit back then. I dunno, I haven't kept up with it.

It's just that damn HP laptop of mine that fucked up (poor design lead to overheating, also, the DC input port loosened from the mobo, $150 to fix). Had a friend whose also did the same and then his screen died. Another friend had his literally catch on fire, despite being careful as to keep it well ventilated. I think it was those Envy laptops?

I haven't heard much feedback from Cyberpower and ibuypower. But I see their ads in the mags and they seem to be very good for the price.

That new Dr. Dre laptop is awesome.

It has an i7 and can have up to 16GB of RAM...

If the sound quality in there is as good as the Beats by Dre earphones/headphones range that would be amazing. I have the Dre/Lady Gaga earphones and the sound quality is stellar.
