Nepal: The People's Revolution

#1
I doubt many of you are too familiar with the revolution taking place in Nepal, but it's extremely interesting.

Here is a website that explains it (biased, but I agree with it), from the poor, rural, communist revolutionary perspective...

http://www.oz.net/~vvawai/sw/sw48/peopleswar.html

I'm sure there are other websites, especially U.S. backed ones that demonize the communist revolution in Nepal, but you'll have to find them on your own, because I support it.

But what are you thoughts on the revolution, read up on it a little if you don't know what it is, it's extremely interesting.

nice read, all I can say is communism in thought an word is a nice idea but it never turns out that way. Communists countries love to pretend to show you how the people just love them but once these people escape an tell their story its never love but horror and hate. Ask anybody who's escaped from North Korea, or what the former USSR was like. These type a governments love to tell their people how to act, what to like, what to say ect because they believe the "State" knows best. Dont get me wrong i dont believe the U.S. is Mecca by any means infact i believe in our lifetime the United States will become a communist country or a dictatorship. Its going that route already of course im sure a few people on here will say im talking out my ass but oh well, current events lead me to believe its inevitable.

The rebels train ALL types of people including men, women, and children and I think that they will prevail.

BUt with any uprising there will be suffering until things level off. The USSR was broken by the Cold War and Cuba is broken by an embargo. Given the right conditions they both would've worked. The problem is that socialism cannot be threatened by outside unsupportive influence. If it is it will fall because it does not have the resources to deal with it.

Exactly, everyone always bitches about how communism can't work, or that it can't in real situations but the real reason communist countries get fucked over is because of U.S. (and other historically oppressive european countries) intervention.

In reality, a communist country without detrimental capitalistic forces could prevail if given the oppurtunity.

But I take Cuba as a fine example of a country that even through the embargo which causes economic hardship for the PEOPLE of Cuba, not Castro, (fuck the U.S. for that shit) that country is still a hundred times better then when Batista was in power. Communism has at least created equality, and if you remember, Castro was quicker to elimate racism then the U.S.

Unfortunately, Castro has dictatorship policies in some areas, such as the whole gay rights issue, and the elimation of political opponants. But economically, Cuba is in MUCH better condition then before Castro, even in the face of the largest bully in the world Cuba has stood strong. So for that, I applaud both Castro and the people of Cuba.

But at any rate, I'd rather see a communist country then a country ruled by a ridiculous, oppresive king.

^I agree and I was hesitant to mention the US but you did it for me.
And I also applaud Castro and think that what they did was against all odds but they have made it and just the fact that we have a "Hands Off Cuba" campaign here gives it some hope. The American socialist revolution was VERY close to happening in the 60s but our government is smart and they know how to fuck with the people. It's just a matter of having enough people, and when that happens, whether it's done through diplomacy or anarchy, it will set off a chain reaction...

Xian, let me ask, I'm just curious, do you consider yourself a socialist?

And yeah, the BPP was spreading socialist ideas, MLK Jr. was a democratic socialist, Malcolm was just about there, his idealogy was beginning to reflect most socialist ideals. Many, many people were advocating socialism and a redistribution of wealth. But your right, the U.S. government was to strong.

But thiers still us socialist that survive today, and hopefully we can get some shit going here eventually... but we'll see what happens.

Yes I consider myself a socialist, I believe that society is not living up to it's potential if it is capitalist or feudal or whatever. There is A LOT of suffering that can be cured by a socialist system and I believe that whether certain people want it or not, it is coming.

I just think that it will take a lot of time though, probably won't start to see a socialist US for hundreds of years. But at least with many of us our heads are in the right place...
And although I sometimes feel hypocritical towards the democrats, I think that we CAN acheive this through peaceful ways and that leads me to vote for them. Slow but steady.

Ah so your sort of a "in the middle of the road" socialist?

Not that thiers anything wrong with that. I'd rather see any sort of a socialist then a conservative right-wing dude, you know?

That's cool though.

I'm just glad to see socialism taking more control recently in certain areas. Nepal being on of them, and there was a european country where a socialist party one election of somehting recently also. Good stuff.

Stay up homie.

i don't think Communism could work. And i don't believe the US has anything to do with the failure of communism. I say communism could have worked with people like Lenine or Che Guevara. But the communist system is always subject to abuse, and turns into a dictatorship. It's basicaly a very vulnerable system, as opposed to capitalism, or even socialism.
