Is broke. Every so often it will turn itself off and start flashing red lights. Like this morning I was right in the middle of a cracking game on Gears of War and it just turned itself off. I've heard that it's a common problem and Microsoft are fixing the dogy consoles. How do I go about fixing mine? Do I just bring it back to the place I purchased it from? Or do I have to send it directly to Microsoft

I would say that you should bring it back to the shop where you purchased it and they will send it off for you or give you details on how to go about doing it..

The ring of fire, three rings of death, bunch of names for it.

Send it back, if you go to where it was bought they will give you info. Microsoft will pay for your repairs and shipping and handling. They extended warranties on 360's to 3 years now cus of the problem. I read its costing them a billion dollars to fix all of these.

you should have purchased an intercooler to stop it over heating.

I am not sure if the problem was ever fixed or if it was just misleading story with a sprinkle of fanboyism. But great number of people had issues with this Intercooler by Nyko and many of them had pictures to prove it. The problem, they claim is that the 360 was designed to handle only the power consumption of the 360, and the Intercooler doesn't have its own power source. I never had the red ring issue until I attached the Intercooler.

Just a question about this red ring thing...does it only happen if 1.Your on the machine too long? 2.Not ventilated enough? because my room is naturally cool and i dont play games for that long unless its Final Fantasy.

i think its got something to do with the firmware of the system.. there is no way to prevent it, its somehting that came when it was out the factory... its usually just a matter of time before it shows up and it seems to show up arbitrarily..

i dont own one, but from what i've heard, that seems to be it..

You shouldnt get red rings if you have recently purchased your 360, its a software isssue not a hardware issue, and to my knowledge should no longer happen. The console still overheats if it is not ventilated properly, I keep mine on the floor and have a fan on to circulate the air around the console. My 360 never physically gets hot, some times a little warm, but no warmer than my PS2 ever got. If you're really worried about it over heating, I found this place in the UK that makes custom outshells for the 360 that have enchanced ventilation (more holes). will look for the link again.

My boyfriend switched out the insides of his broke one and a new one and sent the other one back. We have a brand new one and we got a credit, lmao!
