Well, with AM's thread about the greatest video games and the new batch of consoles that are soon to be here, with all of their pretty graphics and innovations. I thought I'd share with the people of SteetHop, and the gamers on this board my 10 games for the Xbox, PS2 and Gamecube, 1 every week for the next three weeks. Now I know games are still coming out for these consoles, but I don't care, and really are they going to be good enough to get on my list? Probably not. Feel free to share your opinions and even you're own list. So now I'll start with the Xbox.
10. Chronicles of Riddick: Escape From Butcher Bay (2004)
This is a unique game set up in the world of the films Pitch Black and The Chronicles of Riddick. The game's set up is Riddick must escape from the interglatic version of Alcatraz. That's pretty much it. It's a first person shooter, with players using a variety of attacks, for instance you can choose to sneak up on a guard or just attack them with full force, you can even dispatch with a knife, or start snappin' necks. The absolute best part of the game is allowing the player to see in Riddick's night vision, seeing in the character's shinny eyes. There are also no traditional levels and players can do side missions such as doing favors for other inmates for cash and other items. With it's sheer replay value Chronicles of Riddick: Escape From Butcher Bay is a definate must have for any owner of an Xbox.
9. The Warriors (2005)
Now I'm aware this is also available on the PS2, but the game is better on the Xbox. Rockstar Games translates the cult classic right into Video Game form as they put players in controll of all members of The Warriors and ocasionally will participate in eight on eight gang fights. The story begins just as the film did with Cyrus trying to unite all the gangs in New York into one unitfied bunch until he was murdered, and the Warriors left with the set up. Each level allows you to play as each Warrior trying to met up and get back to their home turf, the game also features some of the best chase sequences I've ever played.
8. Beyond Good and Evil (2003)
This Sci-fi adventure gem allows you to play as female operative Jade, who agrees to work for a covert group named IRIS. After her home planet Hyliss falls under attack from an agressive race of Aliens. So you must use her skills to discover the truth behind the invasion and unravel the conspiracy. This is a truly fun and great game. You will utilize martial arts, stealth and wit, as well as collect evidence and explore by foot, space ship and hover craft through futuristic citites. A must own.
7. Burnout 3: Takedown (2004)
Ahh, yes Burnout 3, what a terrific game. How can you not love a game that allows you to cause pile up's and horrific car crashes? Oh and did I mention when you crash it goes into slow motion? Get it if you don't have it.
6. Splinter Cell: Chaos Theory (2005)
The third and best game in the Splinter Cell series. It still has the great game play as the first two, but also has a new feature. Sam Fisher's combat knife, which is a change from Fisher's stranglehold, however players can before they grab an enemy, such as using the knife in the lower back. More effective attacks and high quality graphics make it a great game, and the #6 best Xbox game.
5. Halo: Combat Evolved (2001)
Ahh, yes Halo. When released with the launch of the Xbox no one knew of it's true potential, how it would revolutionize on-line play and become one of the biggest and greatest games ever. Honestly if you have an Xbox, and don't own this game, seriously what's wrong with you?
4. Psychonauts (2005)
There are only a few words I can use to discribe the wonderful game. Unique, Clever, stunning, enjoyable and terrific. Get this game.
3. Star Wars: Knights of The Old Republic (2003)
KOTOR is set during the Golden Age of the Republic and 4,000 years before the Star Wars films. You can comprize your group of 3 characters including Humans, Wookies and Droids. One of the top RPG's out there, KOTOR is action packed and immersive.
2. Ninja Gaiden: Black (2005)
Even though this is a revamp of the original Ninja Gaiden, and pretty much the same game, it fixed some of the problems of the original such as the camera polished up the graphics a bit, added new difficult levels and missions, it even features the original arcade version. The game features some of the most difficult battles I've ever played, it even has Ninjas on horses, oh and you can slice other Ninja's in half. A must own for the Xbox.
1. Halo 2 (2004)
Quite possibly the best FPS ever made, Halo 2 has further story development, better gameplay, improved graphics, and encourages you to find and have fun with the glitches. The single best online game ever, I have lost countless hours playing this game, and I'd do it again in a heartbeat. The only flaw is it's ending, it didn't have one, but that doesn't matter, I didn't want it to end, so with no ending, techincally it didn't. I can't wait to get addicted all over again with the release of Halo 3.
