My first boxing match saturday

okay so its not like an actual match.. but a bunch of friends and myself are having a boxing tournament. they do it a lot, ive never boxed. but i have confidence i'll do just fine.

one guy is tall, skinny, gets beat all the time. im not worried about him the least bit.

one is tall, fat, got ko'd in three punches his last "fight" so i'm not worried about him either.

one is short and skinny and he gets beat up at school but has never boxed before, not worried about him.

one is tall-ish, very fat, and swings like a windmill. but people say he's good.. ? i dont get it, but i know he's slow. i can take him.

my friend who set it all up is real short, like 5'7"-5'8" and about 210. he can bench wayyy more than me, and he is a lot stronger. he beat me in wrestling in high school but he was in a lot better shape and i was in a lot worse. i know my reach is longer and i'm faster but he is a lot stronger.

my other friend is even shorter, not as heavy. he's about 160, benches 220. he's real strong, we have fought a lot, and we're about even as far as gettin drunk and fighting goes. it always ends in a choke hold of some sort. as far as boxing goes, we've never boxed. he's stronger, short arms, but he's quick and strong. he'd be my biggest worry.

so here's my gameplan, use strength to beat the skinny guys who suck, speed to beat the fat guys who suck, and try to stay away from the short ones who are good. dont get too close or i'll get murdered but if i pull some Ali-ish type shit, dance around and use my reach advantage, i should be just fine.

anybody on here ever box? give me some pointers. my boxing resume all comes from hitting the punchin bag and playing fight night round three, which i suck at FN3.

I've done boxing training loads of times but i've never actually fought, i've trained with lots of guys who fight on a regular basis though. How are you guys deciding the winner? Are you having so many rounds or is it till someone gets floored or what?

i always thought they were playin for knockouts but now my friend told me he only loss once but then beat another guy by ko... so i figure he wouldnt mention winning by ko if thats the only way to win.. i guess they go round for round.

lol good luck if you never boxed.
From my own experience I can tell that people training even for a short time are much better than people who don't even if they have longer reach and are heavier.

when i had my boxing match i won by KO.

what i did was body shots until he guarded his body. then i hit small jabs to the face until he started to back out...that's when i went for my first big swing and KO'd his ass.

my next fight was stopped but it was a bigger guy.

I just kept going for his body the whole time until some glass broke in the garage and we had to end it cuz he tripped and cut himself.

but i didnt really have a strategy. its different opponent every time imo.

How strong you are is totally not interesting if you're not a regular fighter. If you're not a real boxer or martial artist, you're not used to getting hit and even Andy Dick could lay you out. Knowing how to throw a good punch, speed and mental composure are much more important.

Also, depending on how long you make the bouts, have fun doing masses of cardio workouts. Like 2Pax above me said.
