He can easily afford it and he's not bothered by the price because he is satisfied with the product he is getting. I am glad he's getting a Mac and I am glad that he's happy with it.

So who said laptops shouldn't cost $3000? Because you get your wack Dell laptop for less?

17" macbook pro - $2,799.00 USD
-----------------------

-2.16GHz Intel Core Duo processor, 2MB on chip shared L2 cache
-1GB (single SODIMM) of PC2-5300 DDR2 memory
-120GB 5400-rpm Serial ATA hard drive
-8x Slot-loading SuperDrive (DVD+R DL/DVD±RW/CD-RW)
-256MB ATI Mobility Radeon X1600 graphics processor
-Mac OS X 10.4

17" dell inspiron 9400 - $1,649.00 USD
--------------------------

-Intel® CoreTM 2 Duo Processor T7400 (2.16GHz, 4MB L2 Cache, 667MHz FSB)
-1GB DDR2 SDRAM
-120GB 5400RPM SATA Hard Drive
-8x CD/DVD burner (DVD+/-RW) with double-layer DVD+R write capability
-256MB ATI MOBILITY™ RADEON® X1400 HyperMemory graphics processor
-Windows Xp Media Center Edition 2005

As you can see, the specs and hardware are nearly identical, except for the fact that the wack Dell smokes the macbook pro with its core 2 duo processor as opposed to the mac's regular core duo. The difference in price is $1150. You're basically paying $1150 extra for Mac OS X while windows is free. Oh,and at least with the Dell your notebook won't turn yellow after one week. No wonder apple holds less than %5 of the market.
