Technology Microsoft Zune - Gates' iPod-killer

#1

"The first device will be equipped with Wi-Fi connectivity, for wireless Internet access, and will allow users to transfer files wirelessly, and share files between each other. Other devices are planned for release under the Zune brand, including a portable video player. A rumored portable gaming device has not been confirmed."

"Microsoft is said to be offering the chance to swap already-purchased songs from the iTunes Music Store, in exchange for WMA versions, for playback on Zune.[8] This would help iPod and iTunes users move to Zune, as Apple's FairPlay content protection scheme that protects iTunes Music Store purchases is not available on any non-Apple device."

The link gave me a guy rubbing a bunny, and then another very small man came up and gave it a hug. That's when I exited.

gay. I hate how Microsoft bites everybody. Apples killing it with the iPods, now Microsoft needs to kill Apple...get that fuck out! They would never have jumped in the portable music player business or wahtever if Apple didnt. Plus it looks stupid, not nearly as gangsta as the iPods.

So...that didn't make you want to buy one?

iPods are hardly original themselves. You can't blame Microsoft for wanting a piece of the lucrative media player market.

^ funny how all these companies are biting Apple.
that's a pretty senseless argument. do you like videogames? if so, whats your favorite system? unless it's the Magnavox Odyssey, which was released in 1972, you are using technology that was "bitten." I guess Atari, RCA, Bally, Mattel, Coleco, Sega, Nintendo, Sony, Microsoft and all the others are just biters?

There's nothing wrong with taking already existing technology and attempting to improve on it. its called electronic evolution.

^ not really. Theres a difference in biting and making things better. Sony taking their PS1 and coming out with the PS2 is making things better, but a company copying the design and technology of a product and selling it off as their own when its clearly been bitten from the OG iPod in this case, then no, thats just shady and proves Microsoft cant come up with their own other trend.

well how do you know that Microsoft's Zune isn't gonna be an improvement on the ipod? all you've seen is the picture, which admittedly does look a lot like the ipod, and some specs, but until its actually on the market and you've actually seen what it can do and find out for yourself if it is an improvement, then its just speculation. if nothing else, this should be good for Apple. if this sells well and gives them some competition, then it will push them harder to top themselves and Microsoft. there's nothing wrong with competition
