Manchester United have appealed against the red card dished out to Cristiano Ronaldo in Saturday's derby.
The Portuguese wide man was sent off in the second period of United's 3-1 defeat to their neighbours Manchester City at Eastlands.
Referee Steve Bennett adjudged Ronaldo's lunge on Andy Cole to be serious foul play but United have now claimed wrongful dismissal.
Prior to his tackle on Cole, Ronaldo had been incredulous as to why he had not been awarded a free kick for what looked to have been a foul on him by Stephen Jordan.
Ronaldo's reaction to Bennett waving away his complaints was to launch himself into a tackle on Cole, which Bennett deemed reckless.
United's claim will now be heard by a Disciplinary Commission on Tuesday.
