OLYMPIC GOLD FOR LONDON

Against all the odds, London has beaten Paris to win its bid to host the 2012 Olympic Games.

The two cities went head-to-head after Moscow, New York and Madrid dropped out in the first three rounds of voting.

British Olympian, Sally Gunnell summed up the atmosphere ahead of the final decision.

"It's really tense and quite nerve-racking... I didn't think I would feel like this," she said.

All the bidding cities completed presentations to the International Olympic Committee in Singapore before the voting began.

Representatives from all five of the competing cities had been lobbying members of the IOC all week.

Big-hitters such as British Prime Minister Tony Blair, France's President Jacques Chirac and US Senator Hillary Clinton were all in Singapore to promote their bids.

In Madrid, the party mood fizzled out in seconds, when they lost out in the third round.

And in Moscow, a crowd of about 100,000 people had gathered in Red Square only to be disappointed as they were the first city to be eliminated.

^^I was just watching TV5 and the French are almost in tears lmao. They're blaming their loss on everything from politics to the English unfairly influencing the voting process. It's SO good they lost :)

The French need to stop crying.

I feel bad for the people who live in London. They're going to have to put up with all the people and traffic and all that other BS that goes along with it.

lol @ the French people shouting "Fucking bastards" at the English reporter trying to get a sense of the disappointment in Paris. London rules, Paris sucks...get over it.

where in london will it be?
The main stadium will be the new Olympic Stadium in Stratford.
Other venus include the Millennium Dome, Wimbledon, Lord's Cricket Ground, Regent's Park, Horse Guards Parade (where Trooping the Colour takes place), Greenwich Park and Hyde Park.

There'll be events outside of London as well, such as rowing and football. I think the Cardiff Millennium Stadium will host some events.
