Technology LAN & WiFi At The Same Time?

This house has the internet set up from when Cable internet was first available--before wifi was reliable or affordable. It's connected from the modem through LAN and it has sockets in the walls of the rooms like a phone line. My question is can I run wifi from that modem at the same time? My one computer isn't wifi ready, but my laptop is and two other computers run w/the LAN, although I think they're wifi ready.

Needless to say, WiFi is one area of computing I'm gray on.
