Labour's "anti-Semitic" billboards

#1

This has been in the news (over here) over the past few days; I saw it discussed on The Wright Stuff this morning and 85% of those who voted in their poll thought it was anti-Semitic. Personally, I didn't see anything anti-Semitic about them, and I really doubt that they were intended to be anti-Semitic.

Your thoughts?

In fact, can anyone (who hasn't read about this in the papers/seen it on TV) recognise what it is about the billboards that is anti-Semitic? For those who don't know, both Michael Howard (on the left in this first poster and in the second poster) and Oliver Letwin (on the right in the first poster) are Jewish.

i havent read or heard about it and i cant see any anti-semetic in it.
well some people might say the second billboard is a hint for the jew/money thing (all what jews care for is the money blah blah..something like this)

I haven't heard of this story before and I seen the alleged anti-semetic overtones straightaway. Hmmm. I don't know. I think the second one is a diss at the Jewish sterotype. Either way there are some smart people working in these ad agencies and they definately knew this would cause controversy and more publicity.
But im still unsure

Bullshit. These aren't anti-semitic at all. The second one is just related to Micheal Howards policies on spending which don't add up. Simple as that. People have just got carried away in over-analysing anything related to offending jews.

lmao. people find the weakest shit to bitch and whine about these days.

"hey, let's diss the opposition on ground of their race/religion"

You'd think Labour is that stupid? They're targeting the conservatives' financiel policy.

claiming this is anti-semitic is like saying OJ got charged cos he's black.

The one where he has the clock and the chain in his hand is actually a reference to the jewish character of Fagin in Dickens' "Oliver Twist" which is said to be a classic antisemitic depiction of the money greedy jew...

I think that anyway the link with antisemitism is not really clear on those billboards that are never gonna be published car they were just for a poll on their website...

I can see how some would view them as anti-Semitic & I can also see how petty it is to complain about this.

Still, I can't help but wish politicians put the energy they exert slandering one another into helping their country/constituencies & that politicians would spend less time complaining that others are using slander & concentrate on helping their country/constituency

And Shylock from Merchant of Venice, though I'm not familiar with that.

There's a slight connection I suppose, though Fagin wasn't a hypnotist.

@Harry potter ure statemnts are def anti semitic:)

TBH i dont see anything anti semitic about the posters and I bet 9 out of 10 people will probably tell u the same.

I will like to say though that what with the Prince Harry saga and now this I think peeps are going a little OTT on claiming things to be anti semitic.

I said antisemetic depiction of the view that is with all the stereotypes and characteristics that antisemetics think jews are made of....

But for me, I didn't say I agreed with the claim that this pics are antisem', I just explained their point.

It's basically saying that the Tories' budget doesn't add up, that they're pledging to spend money they don't have etc.
