Keep An Eye On WWE Castoffs

Keep an eye on WWE castoffs

August 28, 2005

BY BLACKJACK BROWN

After Wrestlemania, several WWE performers fell victim to roster cuts, including the Dudleys, Joy Giovanni, Kenzo Suzuki, Matt Morgan, Charlie Haas, Maven, Jackie Gayda, Marty Jannetty, Dawn Marie, Mark Jindrak, Shannon Moore, Akio, Gangrel, Billy Kidman, Spike Dudley and Mordecai. To some, the most surprising news was that none of these stars resurfaced in TNA or any other promotion. But that was because they were all bound to no-compete clauses -- until now.

As of Friday morning, all those laid off are now free to work with any promotion in the world, and that could make for a tricky situation for WWE as TNA prepares to make its debut on Spike TV.

One other superstar TNA should keep a very close eye on is the just-released Chris Jericho. Eric Bishoff "fired'' Y2J on Monday on "Raw'' for the sake of the TV audience, but in reality Jericho had told WWE many months ago that he was gone right after SummerSlam. Jericho wants to take time off from wrestling to concentrate on his band, Fozzy, and some other personal interests.

if jericho returns to wrestling, it'll prolly be with the WWE

i'd like to see TNA get a lot of the former WWE talent and do something positive with it all. i hope TNA really gives WWE a run for their money.

I've heard Jericho has been in talks with TNA. I even read that a day after Jericho's WWE contract expired, there was a picture of him posing under TNA's logo, so I guess this is a clue of something happening with Jericho and TNA. I would love to see him on TNA's first SpikeTV episode, so I hope this is true. Jericho's wrestling ability and superstar presence would fit greatly in TNA's heavyweight title picture, so in the future I hope TNA acquires Jericho when he decides to make an in ring return.

That's what we call a swerve. Jericho did the TNA picture on his website just to get the internet wrestling crowd talking. He took it down the next day but he will be touring with his band and hopefully for him get work in hollywood. If not then he can sign with any wrestling promotion he wants. If he does goes to TNA we will 100% attain the belt while WWE not anytime soon.

Right Now TNA Would Fit Around Jericho's Schedule. TNA Would Give Him His Time So He Could Go On Tour With Fozzy. Chris Wouldnt Be Trapped 330 Days A year With WWE.

Right Now Fozzy Is The Top Priority For Y2J, Then Wrestling. It Will Be Interesting To See What He Does.

Chris Jericho has explicitly and unequivocally stated that when he returns to wrestling, it will be for the WWE.

The Dudleys (all three of them), on the other hand, would be a BIG draw in TNA, if they decide to go there. As for the others, James "Jamie Noble" Gibson is already Ring of Honor champion, Matt Morgan and Mark Jindrak might be useful for TNA, Charlie Haas and Billy Kidman would be very good additions to the roster and Akio would fit in to the X Division well. Dawn Marie, too, if/when she returns to wrestling.

Many expect Paul London to leave the WWE too, after he had an argument with Vince McMahon regarding the banning of the Shooting Star Press and 450 Splash (his two finishing moves) along with other high risk manouevres; an argument which resulted in his losing of the Cruiserweight title.

While we're at it, I hope Joey Styles Hardcore Wrestling Company will continue to thrive and gain more attention than TNA. I miss hardcore wrestling to the fullest.

Did you see the news about Joey Styles not being allowed to appear on one of his own shows, because of his contract with WWE?

While we're on the subject of the WWE legal team, they've banned the Dudley Boys from using their names. WWE owns the rights to the following names; Bubba Ray Dudley, Buh Buh Ray Dudley, D-Von Dudley, The Dudley Boys and The Dudley Boyz. The team are currently calling themselves "Team 3D".

Yeah, it's sad news for the Dudleyz. McMahon should just give them their name. What the hell is WWE gonna do with the Dudley name. Are they going to try to make another Dudley gimmick. Come on now. I can't wait until the WWE goes out of business one day.
