I've been thinking ...

I've been doing a lot of thinking on the whole God thing. I consider myself a good Christian but occasionally the thought of what if God doesn't really exist pops into my mind. We were talking about the whole Big Bang Theory in my Physics class and my teacher told us a bunch of different theories and one caught my attention. It is the one where dimensions some how collided and that's what caused the Big Bang or something along that line. I really considered that theory and it got me thinking what caused the dimensions to collide? Energy can't just appear according to science so something or someone must have put it there. So what did it? I guess that's my belief on why I think God exists. Discuss ...

When I say God I mean the God from the Holy Books, not a random super being. Meaning, there might be a super being but it could be completely different from anything we know.

I'll say it again, you're just jumping from conclusion to conclusion.

A) Something can't come out of nothing
B) Therefore a higher being must exist (if a higher being can simply 'exist' without having been created then why can't this apply to the universe?)
C) A higher being exists therefore it's God

There's nothing much to discuss when you put it like that really.

That's right. You're still left with the problem of something coming out of nothing, but you've added an extra element, God, into it. In effect, you've answered a problem by substituting another problem in it's place. You could have just said Mother Goose as far as God as a solution for the universe goes.

Under what set of physical laws did God operate before he made the universe--and where did those laws come from? If He was intelligent enough to engage in large-scale cosmic engineering, by what means did He evolve that intelligence? And if He existed before time, then how did He act and plan and make ready for His genesis experiment?

Mother Goose said, "Let the water under the heavens be gathered into one place, so that dry land may appear;" and so it was. Goose called the land earth, and the gathering of the water she called sea; and Mother saw that it was good.

I agree with Chronic, and Radafi when u said about there being a higher power. After reading books like What The Bleep, Power of Now, The Secret etc... it really opened my mind to our incredibly amazing creation. Even on a scientific level, how can our cells exist so perfectly without something intelligent behind it? We arent all perfect in our day to day lives but our creation is.
Here is what Einstein said when asked if he believed in god.

I’m not an atheist. I don’t think I can call myself a pantheist. The problem involved is too vast for our limited minds. We are in the position of a little child entering a huge library filled with books in many languages.
The child knows someone must have written those books. It does not know how. It does not understand the languages in which they are written. The child dimly suspects a mysterious order in the arrangement of the books but doesn’t know what it is. That, it seems to me, is the attitude of even the most intelligent human being toward God. We see the universe marvelously arranged and obeying certain laws but only dimly understand these laws.

Basically saying he doesnt think we have the capacity to comprehend god.

Christianity on the whole, I just think its a shame that people buy into it. I know this guy who was sitting in a room while these 2 other guys were praying. He said he felt something really powerful, u know that epiphone that people get, and decided to become a christian. im just like man, what u felt was real but christianity isnt the answer. now u try to ask him his beliefs on certain things, like homosexuality, and he gives this text book answer about jesus. its not expanding his mind at all

maybe christianity isnt the answer for u, maybe it would be a good idea to dive deeper into it.
