i know there's a lot of muslims on the board... and i just want to get your side of the story on this...

is it true y'all are trying to get rid of every other religion on the planet starting with the jews? i never noticed this but i've been reading up on the religion and it all makes sense... plus, on a side note, a lot of my muslim friends try to convert me all the time... they still my dudes no matter... but its catholyc for lyfe... actually to be honest... religion is bullshit and it's just brainwashing in the billions... babybackbullshit

is religion brainwashing? no. it is faith, and you're welcome to quit anytime. the only exception i can find is islam (in the majority). my sister's bf is a muslim and i dont think he is active at all, but he will never marry my sister because he can't give up his religion. his family and all that, you know?
it is way more lenient in christian/catholic environments, and i don't know why.

But that is not our goal, and im pretty much like Tru Principle I'm a Muslim but I do not follow organized religion , that shit is nothing but a means for men to control mankind. We do not typically set out to try an find people to convert. Conversion is something you must do on your own, you must be called or have a calling so to speak. This new age Islam is far from what it was originally intended to be, man has hijacked it an conformed it to his own will an greed. Why we now have Sunni an Shia Islam is beyond me, the prophet (pbuh) would be rolling in his grave could he see what its become today, there is no Sunni an Shai Islam only 1 ummah, to hell with those who have hijacked an destroyed what is truly a beautiful religion.

I'm Shia Ismaili Muslim and I respect all religions, but there will always be things that I don't agree with. I have tried to convert my non muslim friends to become muslim, but not by force. I've tried to convince and explain to them on what being a muslim is, but if they arent interested in being one, it wouldn't bother me at all.

I'm not a muslim, but I can guarantee you that's not true. It's every muslims duty to inform people about Islam though, so maybe it can seem that way to you.

Actually its not Islams job to get rid of every religion. If u check History many Non-Muslims including the Jews have lived under Islamic rule in an Islamic state without any force upon their choice of religion.

As far as Muslims trying to convert others, somewhere along the lines Muslims have forgotten that the truth in Islam is whats supposed to attract people to this religion, not us non-educated fools trying to get our friends to convert, cuz mommy and daddy told us not to hang out with non-muslims. All of a sudden we have the masses being soproud of the fact that Islam is the #1 growing religion in the world, but nobody taking time to learn it and practice it the way it is meant to be practiced.

And like Kareem said, Islam like all other religions have been corrupted by man, all of a sudden we have all these so called Muslim leaders pushing their own agenda in the name of Islam.. every1 from the Saudi government to fake ass scholars in the west, to so called Mujahideen.. whats wrong is wrong, putting an Islamic name on it doesnt make it right.

As far as Sunni's and Shia's are concerned, actually the prophet (saw) predicited this. In one of his Hadath he curses the ones who will split up his Ummah. And theres another Hadith in which he predicted everything will become so deceptive that his Ummah will be broken into 72 sects, only one of which will still be following thetrue and pure Islam. As far as Sunni's and Shia's are concerned it was majorly a political struggle, which has now been blown outta proportion and The prophet (saw) would definitely not approve of what we've done to God's religion.

I can see religion from a psychologists pov; yes it can be seen as brianwashing. Religion was a concept invented by the people, for the people, thousands of years ago when there probably wasn't even a national cirriculum. When people were probably so confused by thier own conscience, they consoled in their own idea/creation of a diety to put their minds at rest. An idea that seemingly cought on around the world, and bore different ideals in relation to custom or tradition.

Religion today seems to be but a set of doctrines; whereas Buddhism/Taoism has no fixed precepts.

the teachings are one thing, but the history of the christian religion is the best example of how religions attempted to cancel previous ones. No one is contesting the teachings of Jesus, you said it yourself that he didn't come to create a new religion, yet Christians commited so many atrocities to cancel previous pagan religions.
