in line skates

lately i've been thinking about getting for me a pair of inline skates. basically i just wanna use it as a form of cardio exercise.. running is good, but you receive a lot of strain to your joints (especially knees) and since i weight about 235 lbs i don't want to damage my joints, cause i've been running more back in the days (preparing for a couple of marathons i've participated) and today sometimes i feel pain in my knees.. i know my meniscus is slightly damaged. so i guess inline skates would be a good choice, of course a bike would be aswell, but i want skates.
what would be some descent inline skates you could suggest, what would be a good bargain? perhaps any models? lately i've learned about "skikes" it's like off road inline skates, just 2 big wheels instead of regular 4 wheels in inline skates. skikes can be used as a replacement training for ski-running, involves a lot of muscles and is good for your heart. what do you think? share your opinion.

p.s. and yes, i'm not new to inline skates, as a teenager i used to have ones.

You're a big dude, man. When big dudes fall...they fall hard.

There's several different ways of doing cardio aside from the old-fashioned running. If you're worried about your joints, ride a stationary bike or something.

I sprained my arm really bad when I was younger from skating, so I might be somewhat biased here haha.

i know, when a big body falls, it hurts much more, but as i've said i have no intentions of doing tricks with skates, just basic skating, sometimes long distance skating. riding the bike is not the same as running or skating. of course it's good, but stationary bike..i'm not feeling it.

Go for it, i'm assuming if you're already familiar with them you don't suck at skating. If thats the case you're not gonna fall unless its a freak accident. I used to love inline skating. Make sure you get hard wheels instead of soft wheels though.

I checked out a few different skates and the Rollerblade Astro 6.0 were the best for around its price range off $300 U.S. They are popular due to their comfort, maneuverability and affordability.. Good beginer skates as they come with 80mm wheels. (a little slower)

Anything less then $200 U.S. Won't preform well, will wear out quikly any you simply won't be satisfied.

The k2 moto extreme is more expensive as they retail for around $600 but they are better quality and therefore last longer. They also come with 100mm whells for extra roll and smoothness.

If you won't to go all out buy a pair of marathon skates but in my opinion they are just a waste of money unless you want to compete in a marathon or want to be a speed skater lol.

Anything made by Rollerblade, k2 or Filla, you know you are getting quality for your money..
As to the Skikes I havnt herd a lot about them but they would be good simply because they can be used off road.

In the end pick a pair which is most comfortable for you, and when you try them on ask if you can roll around for a good 5, 10 mins..

are you sure about k2 moto extreme? i've checked and the price is around 250 usd. and also Rollerblade astro 6.0 can be bought for ~200 usd. well, that's from ebay, but i guess there are other online stores. of course, i won't buy it online before trying in reality. also, as i see k2 moto extreme has 2 front wheels smaller than the wheels at the end. is that for the better maneuverability?
and also i'm a little worried about inline skates usage only on good paved roads and when the asphalt is not that good or there is some dirt/gravel/sand on it it won't be pleasant to skate and not good for inline skate's bearings. that's why i came with the idea about skikes.

Sorry I should of mentioned I was using a Austalian site, that price must include shipping or something..
And to be hounest im not sure why the two front wheels are 90mm on the k2's, the only thing that I can think off is that if they all were 100mm, each skate would be awfully long and the wheels would stick out far past the boot.
The durabilty of the inline wheels depends on how often you use your skates. They will get flat spots and cracks on rough surface and as you are a fairly big boy this will happen quiker.. But that's not to say the first bad road you go down you will need new wheels.. Depending on how often you use your skates will determine how often you will need new wheels, they should last you minimum 3 months but again, just depends on how often and how well you look after your skates.
Try to stay away from rolling on dirt and sand, they will eventually wreak your bearings..

Personally I would go for the skikes because their is allmost nowhere you can't go on them.. But then again I don't know how long they would last and whatnot.. How much do they go for?
