you sleazy bastard. i downloaded mozilla firefox after you advised me to and now i have a problem: when i do a search on www.packetnews.com for say "2pac" i get every file being served on irc with "2pac" in it. anyway, so every entry in the search results list have a clickable link that opens irc (if it is not already open) and pops up a message asking me if i want to join the channel on the current server, change servers in the current server window and join the channel, or join the server in a new server window and join the channel. i choose whatever and it connects and joins the channel. soon as i hit CTRL+V, the /ctcp botname xdcc send #whatever command appears so all i have to do is hit enter.. so far this is nothing that people didn't already know, right?

NO! NOT RIGHT! CTRL+V doesn't work anymore and because i'm so used to using firefox now i don't think about the fact that it doesnt work when i go to packetnews. i discover that when i try hitting CTRL+V in irc. so then i'm forced to go to the start menu, open ie, load packetnews.com, do the search there, and find the page. i know i could just copy the url from firefox, i do that some times too. the point is it is annoying. why doesn't CTRL+V work? what is it with firefox that fucks up and HOW DO I FIX IT? if this isn't fixable i am going straight back to ie. fuck the security holes, and least i don't have to write long ass commands when i want to download something on irc.

Simple problem, easily remedied.

Type about:config into the address bar.
In the search box, paste the following:
signed.applets.codebase_principal_support
Change the value from False to True

and also i was annoyed by your signature because i don't understand it. i am anti-patriotic and i don't give a rats ass about politics (and politicians as well). i hate art, physics and biology (which excludes picasso and darwin and whoever else i do not know in that list). i'm not a us citizen so although i know president names i have no clue when they were in office and what they did that people remember them by (except a select few). can you explain it to me so i can laugh with you? :)

Before u put ur trust in firefox there is something u should know..it's not as safe as everyone makes it out to be..just read this..

Mozilla And Firefox Vulnerable To Old Frame Injection Trick

Something old is new again. Reports by Danish security firm Secunia indicate both Mozilla and Firefox browsers are susceptible to a flaw first discovered in 1998.

A malicious coder could use the vulnerability to spoof a legitimate web site, and gather personal information from users tricked into visiting and interacting with the spoofed site.

Secunia rates the flaw as moderately critical, and confirms it exists in Firefox 1.0.4 and Mozilla 1.7.8. Mozilla has recommended users close all other tabs in the window before visiting a site where personal information will be entered.

Mozilla has been very quick to deal with security issues as they have arisen. Users should visit the Mozilla web site for updates on the flaw and for a patch when it becomes available.

Last month, Mozilla had to quickly fix three significant security flaws discovered during Mother's Day weekend.

It appears the growing popularity of Firefox has placed it into the sights of more malicious attackers. Users who have moved from Microsoft's Internet Explorer to Firefox are starting to find security problems following them to the new browser.

Browser security is an industry problem, not just a problem of manufacturers, as a member of the IE team at Microsoft observed online.

More information on Secunia's findings, including a link where a user may test their Firefox or Mozilla browser for the vulnerability, may be found online.

Bear in mind that Secunia lists 5 unpatched flaws in Firefox. It lists 20 flaws in IE. None of the Firefox flaws are rated Highly Critical or Extremely Critical, 4 of IEs are Highly Critical and 2 are Extremely Critical. Firefox also patches more of its flaws.

Firefox isn't entirely secure, no browser is, but it's still a far better choice than IE.

Even if you don't like the people on the list, you must recognise their contribution to mankind. The point is simply that those who make breakthroughs for mankind tend to be liberal.

It’s easy to rattle off the names of great liberals: Jesus, Buddha, Copernicus, DaVinci, Michelangelo, Galileo, Voltaire, Locke, Jefferson, Franklin, Madison, Adams, Darwin, Dickens, Hugo, Melville, Lincoln, Twain, Picasso, Einstein, Darrow, Gandhi and Martin Luther King. And great conservatives? Hmmm. Cotton Mather and Ronald Reagan is about it I guess.

What? You're tripping. I have five PCs, all with Firefox and they all have it. You sure you typed it in right?

Firefox didn't mess up your internet, you did. Post some details in a new thread and someone'll sort it out for you.

Its always the end user and not the program. But hey if you want a shitload of spyware and infections through Active X then go right ahead and use IE.

What I do Rizzle is click the link in packetnews.com and redirects me to IRC in which the channel I requested opens. So now what I do is find the bot double click to open a new window and type in "xdcc list" The bot will spew oput all the files its hosting then I type in the request and d/l. Yeah I know it is not as quick as the method Illuminattile is trying to teach you but it works fine for me.

Just to clarify, you type in about:config and all the configuation stuff comes up, right? But when you type signed.applets.codebase_principal_support into the filter box (as in the image below) there's no entry?

The only thing I can suggest is redownloading Firefox. I don't know why it's not there.
