Technology if i had to convert to XVID

is it possible?? i have all these family guy episodes that i wanna put on my ipod, but when i convert them to mp4, the ipod says that the file cant be read...im sure it has somethign to do with XVID, cuz my other movies go on to the ipod......anyway to convert it or something??
