I know I'm about 10 years late, but yea, I just beat MGS1 a week ago. I didn't expect it to have any twist like the sequels because I had read about it already. But playing the game thru helped me get a better understand of the story. Like Naomi story, Gray Fox (still a little confused about his cyborg origin and how it correlates with Olga having his costume in MGS2), Meryl and her passion to be a soldier. I was also confused about the nuclear strike that was supposed to hit Alaska, order by the Secretary of Defenses. He got arrested, but by it was issued by the US president, George Sears (aka Solidus). I dont know, it just confuses me. And also, how it was determined whose genes were superior.

It was hard as hell to beat the torturing session by Ocelot. I had to restart the game maybe 3 or 4 times to beat it. And then, I didn't expect the fist fight with Liquid to be so difficult. The games dated graphics turned me off at first but they grew on me. I just hope that somehow twin snakes is converted to playstation 2 or 3.

But right now, I'm waiting for the essential collections to come out. Hopefully it will have the updated version of MGS1 in it.

The moment I crawled out of the sewer unarmed with only a pack of ciggerettes and a scope, I instantly knew this one possibly the greatest game ever made.

Yes i love the whole Metal Gear Solid franchise. Hideo Kojima is a fuckin genius when it comes to these dayz. I remember the first time i played the first Metal Gear Solid, i had bought a $5 demo disc at Electronics Boutique (EB Games) and the game was an extra demo and it was also in Japanese. After playing the demo i loved the entire game! Good thing you pointed out that Essentials collection Kadafi Son. I've been so caught up with MGS4 that i didn't even know that shit was coming out! Ima go reserve that shit later on 2nite!

Honestly, when I first played the demo back in 99, I was just a kid and I didn't like the game (if I remember right, I couldn't find out what to do after I got off the elevator). But now, the whole series has me hooked. I guess come I'm older and I'm a social worker. (A lot of charaters in MG need social service or some type of help.)

thanks for ruining the ending...

aeris dies in FF7.... there you bastards.. gotcha back
lol, you clever devil.

the best part about it is you two fuckers just ruined both those games for me. i will, one day, start the MGS series. i refuse to get the later games before finishing the first ones. ff7 i will complete once i get a psx version for it. but you ruined two endings for me now, one of them in an attempt to just be funny. how wasted :(

Why dont you stop being a little bitch and just buy the Metal Gear Solid Essential collection that comes out on tuesday? That way you can actually start playing all the MSG games and hopefully you will be done with them by the time MGS4 comes out.

what made u think I wouldn't talk about about the games ending when the title of the thread is........

didn't mean to spoil it though. But there are still a lot of information I didn't cover. It would still feel good to play the game even though you just read half the ending

oh that isnt the ending.. that happens quite early actually... it was still an attempt at humor... it's not the ending though i promise.. it was almost premature

omg nostalgia :D

I remember spending weeks with MGS demo from ps magazine.
When I got the full game omg how perfect it was.
I loved it. It was one of the best psx games ever.

I remember I was a kid when I first played it so I was scared as fuck whenever I moved to a new area. I always eliminated all the guards there and then "sneaked" :D
It was annoying when guards reapeared as I had to kill them again and again :D
it's like that base had a thousand of soldiers there because I'm sure I killed at least 500 during the whole game.

LOL. I felt and did the same things. Where were all those soldiers coming from?! And yea, I got scared as hell when i enter a new floor, cuz i also ain't kno where the guards were posted. All that pissed me off about the game was tha fact i couldn't use first person. In the beginning, i thought i was just pressing the wrong buttons, but half way thru the game, i realized it wasn't even an element in the game. so thanks to mgs2.

sometimes i wonder wat the graphics of mgs2 and 3 would be like if it was released on ps1

MGS1 is still one of the best gaming experiences I've ever had. The plot, the atmosphere, the enemies. It all ruled.

Actually, the only drawback I can think of is the final fight with Metal Gear. Phase 1 is easy, chuck chaff grenades and destroy the radome. Phase 2 sucks. I've spent hours trying to figure out a good tactics. Hit and run, hit run and hide. Just hide and then hit. i always died.

I eventually beat him by just standing 30 meters in front of the robot, equip the stinger and your rations and see who dies first. Kinda anti-climactic, but ok.

I was never able to beat the torture session by Ocelot so Meryl always bought it in my game. A shame.

I musta died a hundreds fighting phase to also. But it wasn't til after I beat it i realized I coulda used chaff grenades. But about fightin Liquid hand to hand. For some reason, it was so difficult for me

Since you couldn't beat the torture, how do you look yourself in the mirror? Really.

this was probably the first (in not only) game i hit 60 + hours on. i was obsessed with the bitch. once i played on extreme there was no turning back. i played this thing constantly back in school. hell, i'd play it just to get spotted and bust some caps even.
