How would u change schools in your country??

#1
I was having a conversation today with someone about how our schools are letting the youth down and things that could be done to improve things, so I thought i'd start a thread about it,

Here is what I would do if I was in charge:

Have a weekly half an hour sex education class starting from the age of 12, but it would not just be like the shit that they teach in a couple of lessons like we had (all the physiological things), but a class that taught things like, dangers of s.t.d's the effects on children growing up fatherless, the financial strain that is causes, abusive relationships etc - real issues

I would scrap the bullshit cookery calsses that they have now and replace it with a class on nutrition, like they have at college, to help this country get away from this obesity epidemic that we are facing, people then can make educated choices on food, because that's half the problem, people wanna eat healthy but as sad as it sounds they don't know how,

I would increase the amount of P.E to a minimum of 3 hours a week, to also help fight obesity and to help breed the sportsmen and women of tomorrow and turn us into a nation of sports enthusiashts, australia is a great example of this,

And make chinese language avalible to learn with the view of phasing it in as a mandatory langauge, because it is the most spoken language in the world and soon to be the worlds biggest economy, this would help bussiness in the future, I would still leave the other languages available and keep it to 2 languages per student,

Agree or Disagree?

Now your turn, relate it to your country :)

intersting. i dont disagree with your thoughts.

i would pay teachers more money. 90% of my teachers didnt give a damn. i think alot of the teachers dont feel motivated to do a good job becaue of their pay. even though their motivation should be to educate the future of tomorrow.

i would get parents more involved. maybe a weekly or ever other week sit down meeting with groups of parents. thats a big factor in a kids education imo. the parents have to be involved.

smaller classes. mainly for students that are having a hard time in school and may be scared to ask question in a room full of "know it alls". i know there were times when i was in school i felt weird asking a question because it seemed like everyone knew the information but me.

i'll think of some others later

My school has a health class addressing the isues you stated, radkin, and a nutrition class you're talking about. To improve schools, we need to stop bitching about taxes and have the government increase taxes, so that schools can get more funding and provide a better education for us.

Yeah in the U.K we don't have those (health class & nutrition), but we sure need em :thumb:

I agree with Puff about the teachers. From my experience, I think things would improve alot if there were better teachers in school. For me, it didn't matter what the subject was, if the teacher was cool and interesting, I performed better. I was more focused on what the teacher had to say. Teachers need to make learning exciting.

I also agree with Glockmatic. I think money is a big issue when it comes to colleges and universities.

I was fortunate enough to have great schools in my area but that's not the case when you go into inner cities. I wish every kid in my country had the same level of education as I did.

^ yeah. i didn't say 'pay the students'. it's pay the teachers and make higher education cheaper in order to give every single kid a chance to receive higher education. sorry if i didn't make myself clear... i need higher education. :p

I think sex education classes should have LIVE demonstrations, what to do and what not to do. It doesn't hurt to see people naked.

Cellphones should always be allowed in classes, because incidents do happen and not long ago at my school a girl's cellphone rang in class and it was confiscated. The next school day, the whole school learned the death of the girl's father who was calling to ask his daughter where his heart medication was.
