How often should I walk?

Ive been walking at about 3.5miles for 30 mins everyday for the past week.

My question is, should I do it every day or not? I mean, does my body get used to it if I do it too regularly?

Also should I push myself more and more in distance and time or keep it regular?

The aim is to shed the beer gut I started to get. Im 6'4 and just under 210, and also for fittness.

Because of a fucked up schedual I cant eat as well as I would like to. But I have cut out all soft drinks, drinking plenty of water during the day and juice in the morning and with meals, and eating healthier when I can. Also not drinking any beer.

Actually regular exercise is good for you, you're body doesnt get use to it. But you metabolism does speed up. The more you eat the fast it burns it up. So if you eating less and still doing the walk everyday it'll help you lose weight faster.

Are you using any sort of supplementals or nething? or just straight up exercise?

And yea if you have the time, push a little more everyday so your body does a lil harder work. Your whole system will get stronger. Its like lifting weights, if you to ten pounds everyday as to first 10, then 12 then 15...the gradual increase will help u get stronger.

shouldnt this be in health and fitness? rukas ur breaking ur own rules lol

walkin everyday, at the speed ur doin it, will help, but u would probably get better/faster results if u walked faster, or jogged, for a lil longer, 3-4 times a week. but go at ur own pace for now, and slowly get faster, thats the best way to make sure ur hearts prepared

It is in fitness what you talking about?

Actually walking at that speed burns more fat than jogging does.

Im not using any supplements no. What do you recommend? I always thought supplements were used to put on weight for muscle building, not to drop it.

The trouble is, Im sure I could walk futher, right now its a time factor, but now its the weekend I will push it further.

Actually dont use any supplements. I'm saying that because i used to train with the us marines bout 2 years ago, and i tried a handful of different types of supplements and they all helped me lose weight but the minute i stopped, it all came back plus like 20lbs more. Theres alot of type of things you can use, but trust me i dont recommend it at all. I actually had problems with my heart after using them.

And i know time is always a factor thats why I asked if you had the time, but push yourself very slowly man, it does make the difference. If you walk for 30mins everyday, switch that to 35. Or the last 5 minutes of 30 mins, speed walk or jog, the heart picking up its rate and everything will help you slowly.

I'm also a EMT, so thats why, I'm speaking from expience and classes. Let me know what u do.

You must be walking a bit fast if you're able to walk 3.5 miles in 30 minutes. I suggest you start running, walking is for old ladies.

But, to answer the question, you should walk/run as much as possible. It's not like weight lifting, really, where you kind of have to watch out how often you're lifting. I suggest you take up a sport, it's more fun. Walking is so...for old ladies. Did I say that before? :)

^^ I have a walking machine, I put beats on and think of verses to go alone with them while I walk or do it while I watch TV or something so its not a complete bore and waste of time.

True, walking does burn more fat than jogging ,but only when you're doing the excercise.

When you jog,you burn off all the liver glycogen(not fat),but your body will burn fat the rest of the day, even when you're sleeping. Not to mention that jogging or running increases your metabolism while walking doesn't.

Don't run. Too many injuries unless you really intend to get into it and train with experienced runners who can show you warm-up and stretching exercises, and you have a nice place to run.

Walking is fine. Many fitness buffs look down on walking as being tame compared with running. It's not so. I've seen people attain maximum fitness through walking alone; they did it conscientiously and regularly and did enough of it to take full advantage of its wonderful conditioning effects on the body. I've also seen very obese ppl reach their optimal weights in several months by walking every day in combination with sensible dietary modification.

For maximum cardiovascular benefit, you should try to include some uphill walking, or walk fast enough to get your heart rate up. You should be able to walk about three miles in 45 minutes.

I wouldn't advise him to push weight for one reason, it's a hard pill to swallow for the immune system... At least I don't do that as I know that in a week or so I'll catch some illness, heh.
I could advise diet, and that's all - you should burn more, than you eat, if you cut some extra calories the walking will do its thing. When I had to get ripped in a week for the competitions I usually did that:
-No more gym training (remember about a hard pill..)
-More walking, jogging, whatever
-Diet (I lost about 5 kilos in a week, while saving the mass (damn what a beutiful thang - being shredded :))
So diet (It's the key point, Rukas, as I really did that with myself) - I drank distilled watter, refused salt, pepper, beer, bread (and anything with extra carbos), cooked rice, oatmeal (with water only) and ate a little vegetables... That's my point (shredded abs are a week away hehe)... try this
If you feel healty enuff to gym'ing - so try, I wouldn't. Other case to do it periodically (2 weeks in the gym + a week of walking:thumb:). I hope my advice was useful, luck!

BTw, i'd still say, Ruk, hit the gym. Why waste time with losin fat when you can build up muscles? I know bigmack, it's not possible to do it at the same time, but that just goes for people that are in a routine already. Form my experiences, if a dude hit the weight room for pretty much the first time, he will lose fat too cause he burns a lot of calories plus....just because you lift weights doesn't mean you can't run twice a week.....

Destilled water kills, whatever u had, it wasn't destilled.
I didn't die, I know it's harmful when you drink it 24/7, and yes it was destilled... I don't advice to drink it as it was example of a rather hard diet for competitive guys... As it makes you extreamly shredded.
btw you won't build muscles while running every single day... Of course if the purpose is not to gain weight (i.e. muscles) it will do... but again I think it ain't good for the immunity.

distilled water doesn't have electrolytes.it will kill you.especially if you cut out salts and potassium from your diet.that's why you got shredded.your body lost alot of it's water.
