Technology Help with Windows Vista

#1
so i can use a little help here guys. i downloaded a program and installed it, but when i tried to run it, it says i need administrative priveleges to run it the first time for some damn reason. of course, i already set myself as an administrator, so i was like, wtf? so i check user accounts, and when i go to edit mine it says i'm an administrator, but there are 2 choices for accounts: Satndard and Administrator. i am set to standard (even though at the top of the page it has my account and right under it it says administartor) so i figure, ok, i'll just click administrator and problem solved, right? fuck no! instead, when i highlight administrator, the change account type button at the bottom grays out so i can't click it! does anyone know why it does this, and how to change it so that i can have an administrator account, even though this stupid thing is telling me i already am?

and please, no responses of "Vista sucks, you should use this or this or this OS" because i already know Vista sucks, and i don't need to be told again lol.

edit: ok i figured out it won't let me change my account to administrator because i already am an administrator, but i still get the same bullshit when i try to run the program, "you must be an administrator, blah blah blah. i want to kill Bill Gates. :fury:

well the program is Alcohol 120% (used for burning and mounting games, DVD's, etc.) and i have no idea if it's compatible with windows vista, but it is the latest version so i imagine it should be compatible

well do you actually have two users on your computer, one called "Administrator" and one with your user name?

Restart your computer and log in with the user name "Administrator" and presumably no password.

nope, there's my account and my girlfriend's accounts, the only other account is a guest account whch hasn't been activated. both my girlfriend and i are administrators according to the useracount settings, and we've both had similar problem with different programs being installed and run. but i've installed plenty of programs on this computer since we've bought it and this is the first time this has happened to me. fucking windows

You can't be helped and i haven't even read your problem. All you can do is dump Vista and go back to Windows XP.

Ok i read your problem. There is always an administrator account. You just don't see it. You would if you went in through Safe Mod. You can do that and install the program that way or you can go into your user account options and check your access and see if you gave yourself full access.

well i might try safe mode, that may work. but like i said i went to user account options and it says i'm already an administrator, both accounts on this computer are administrator accounts. right under my account name it says administrator, and i don't see any options to change my access, even though it says as an admin i should have unlimited access. it is just all very puzzling and annoying to me.

Did you even try editing permissions? It doesn't matter if you're admin. I'm the only user of my pc and still had the problem
well running in safe mode seemed to work, it works okay now. but i don't know how to edit permissions, when i go to user account options i don't see anything about editing permissions lol.

edit: i found another solution, one of those "duh, why didn't i think of that?" things lol. if a program is telling you you need to be an admin to run it, and you already have an admin account, right click on the icon of the program and select the option "run as administrator" lol that would have saved me a lot of time had i noticed that in the first place.
