Ok, seeing as no-one else is helping....:thumb:

First off this is probably best in tech talk.....

Zipping the songs won't compress them by any useful amount, and isn't worth the time or effort involved.

What you need to do is purchse/obtain some of your own webspace. This enables you to upload all your songs (it'll take a long ass time tho). Then your songs will be stored indefinatly. However this is one of the least practical methods of backup due to the time to upload the tracks.

Aslo another point, the number of songs on your PC will no signifcantly affect the speed, if it's slow it probably due to shit you have on your PC (spyware, programs, toolbars etc), rather than the number of songs. I quite happily run my (quite old) PC with over 10,000 songs with no adverse effects. (I still recommend backups of your shit tho.)

The best option is to buy either a DVD or CD burner...I know you said you havn't got one but they are cheap, and the outlay is worth it when u consider what you would lose if something bad was to occur.

what? I use Winzip & Winrar & the difference between the regular file & the zipped file is like 2 MBs.

On topic: There are many site that can do that, but non of them (as far as I know) are free...

Use gmail.

To get a gmail account if u dont have one, type "gmail invitations" in a google search and u should find what ur lookin for. Then u need to download a program called RoamDrive from Download the beta version. When u run RoamDrive for the first time,it will ask u for ur gmail email address and password.Do this and click save. Now just drag and drop files into the your files pane as would between 2 normal windows.Roamdrive will upload the files to a special folder of ur webmail account.

I think u can store up to 2gb this way.Does that help?

1,000 songs is more than 2 gigs, for me atleast, but what tupac said should help you out...make several g-mail accounts maybe?

but like somebody else said, you need a burner...you really do...when i bought my comp about 4 years ago, i thought, i dont need a cd burner and that it wasnt worth the extra cost..i should go for something simple...but really, it has paid off...just buy a 5-pack of CD-RWs, and you can not only put your library on the cd, but update it everyweek or so....last time i checked, we got CD-RWs that can rewritten up to a million times...so you should be fine..

the reason im saying RW's is cuz im sure you get new songs from this board every week or so..or maybe from other places...if something bad were to go wrong, then you lose quite a bit if they werent updated on the RW...
