a) What are you going to use it for? Music, photos, videos?
b) How much space are you going to need to hold it all?
c) How much are you willing to pay?
d) What other features, if any, do you want? FM Radio, games, legal download services?

screw legal dl services, no one unde the age of 30 does that...

i would say just go with a reg. 30 gig ipod... or if you have more music, go more.... honestly, the fm radios on portable devices suck balls.. rarely do they work well even under regular conditions...

btw, has the zune flopped yet?

It's not a good time to buy iPods. Apple is dragging the introduction of the next gen iPods because of a little thing called the iPhone. You'll be seeing a widescreen multi-touch iPods by the end of the year. The exact reason why I have never owned an iPod in my life, and I'm a Jobs follower. I currently own the Samsung K5. It does freeze up from time to time like any other mp3 player but I have never had any issues with the battery because I know how to treat it. Completely use up the power and reacharge 100% for at least the first few cycles and never have it plugged in for more than 3 hours (or more time than it needs to charge).

Wait or get a non-apple player.

change the format from windows to linux on an ipod and you can get emulators to play games like sonic 2 and more, and you can then also watch videos on it. you also get calculator as an extra feature.
