Gulf War illness is real, new federal report says - CNN.com

WASHINGTON (CNN) -- An extensive federal report released Monday concludes that roughly one in four of the 697,000 U.S. veterans of the 1990-91 Gulf War suffer from Gulf War illness.

That illness is a condition now identified as the likely consequence of exposure to toxic chemicals, including pesticides and a drug administered to protect troops against nerve gas.

The 452-page report states that "scientific evidence leaves no question that Gulf War illness is a real condition with real causes and serious consequences for affected veterans."

Finally, some acknowledgement from the federal government on this. They were actually telling vets it was all in their heads so they wouldn't have to pay out health care benefits and maybe scare current vets. The babies born to Gulf War soldiers are two to three times more likely than other soldier's children to suffer from birth defects, from heart valve defects to urinary tract deformities. Apparently, that too was all in their heads.

At least 175,000 veterans from the first Gulf War are sick, and it's going to be even more from this one. Of course, the report tries to weasel out of saying the vets from this war will get sick because "the report concludes there is no clear link between the illness and a veteran's exposure to factors such as depleted uranium or an anthrax vaccine administered at the time." The current trrops have been exposed to so much depleted uranium that they are walking time bombs for cancer. And forget about their baibes...

It's good that they finally recognize it as real. It's a start.

The whole story around the depleted uranium is also far from over. The sad thing is that they won't acknowledge that until it's too late.

*forgets about their babies*

That goes for every war, though. I'm more interested in seeing how many will turn into serial killers. There's a bunch of psychos from the war in Bosnia living in America now as refugees and *yikes* even as citizens.

Post traumatic stress goes for every war, yeah, but this is more about the materials that soldiers are working with.

They're not sick as in sick in the head, they've really become physically sick.
