Buying an mp3 player is definitely worth it, but to be honest there are cheaper HD mp3s out there with the same, if not more features. Check out the alternatives (iRiver, Creative). Don't just go with an iPod because it's the most popular brand.
i have an ipod, and its dope. but my earphones got fucked up i told my friend and he tld me e had the same thing done to his ipod earphones; by fcked up i mean distortion and hissing sound.

The only problem I have with the headphones is that the plug is too big for my little ears. I end up using my headphones that I use for Bedroom mixing, and they look dumb. They make the ipod sound well smart though.

Generation refers to updates of the IPod. Here is a picture that depicts generations 1-3 along with the IPod Mini. The Generation 4 IPod is not in included in this picture. By the way, you will most likely find only generation 4 IPods in stores now.

I've been thinking about getting an mp3 player of some description and was looking at iPod's but didnt like the price. I guess I just want the maximum song capacity at the cheapest price... I dunno. Too many to choose from. But point taken, it's worth considering alternatives to the iPod.
