Technology fooling websites?

#1
is it possible to fool websites into thinking you're somewhere other than you really are? say for example i wanted to access something that is only available in the US. is there any way to make the web site think i'm in the US, like switching my ip address? i dont know shit about this kind of stuff so i have no clue about this, but i'd love to be able to access this: http://television.aol.com/in2tv unfortunately tho, you can only watch them if you live in the US  if anyone can help me on this it would be greatly appreciated

Yep, find yourself a US-based proxy - search for proxy lists in google and find a us number that you can enter in your browser connection settings.

when Korn's last album came out, there was a couple of remixes that you could download if you bought the album at Best Buy or Target. My wife gave me the code, and I entered it, but then it said i couldnt do it because I was in the UK - I got a US proxy and managed to get it to work.

well i found a US number i can use off a proxy site, but i have no idea how to enter it in my browser connection settings. lol i must sound like a moron but i'm not known for my technical skills on the PC

edit: i tried following a few steps from a guide i got off google, but my PC is asking me for a subnet mask as well as an ip address, so i dont know what to do now lol

If you're using Firefox, you can download an Extension to let you quickly and easily set up proxies, and switch between them. Just search for "Proxy" on the Extensions page.

If you're not using Firefox...start using Firefox.

well i am using Firefox. i did the search, and most of these say they block your ip, but not change it or put it in a specific country which is what i want. do you know of any extensions on there that can do that? or am i stuck checking them all out until i find one that does what i want or give up in frustration? lol

edit: right now i feel like the biggest retard in the world, i cant even figure something as simple as this out. none of the extensions i tried on that page were even remotely helpful, some didnt even work, or at least it didnt tell you how to get it to work. there has to be a plug in or extension or whatever the fuck that will let me simply change my ip to a US one, but there doesnt seem to be and i'm apparently too much of a dumbshit to figure out how to do it manually :(

well that was a gigantic waste of time. i finally found a program that does exactly what i wanted it to do, nly to find out that in order to watch the content on the site each video requires a license, and of course since my ip doesnt match my location anymore, it cant send the license :( well for anyone who does have access, check out this site: http://television.aol.com/in2tv they have tons of classic shows you can watch on the site for free, including some of my favorite old shows, which is why i wanted access to this site so badly :fury: thanks for the help anyway guys, it's appreciated

edit: btw, does anyone know of any other sites like this that are free and don't require you to live in the US?

/\ youtube.
as far as i know or can find, youtube doesn't have any old TV shows, lots of clips from episodes of shows, but not actual full episodes like the site i was trying to access earlier. A lot of the shows they have on that site aren't in syndication anymore and haven't been out on DVD yet, so that site is the only place to find things like full episodes of one of my favorite sitcoms of all time, Perfect Strangers :)
