The Nominations:
Buffon (Juventus, Italy), Cannavaro (Real Madrid, Italy), Cech (Chelsea, Czech Rep), Ronaldo (Man Utd, Portugal), Deco (Barcelona, Portugal), Drogba (Chelsea, Ivory Coast), Essien (Chelsea, Ghana), Eto'o (Barcelona, Cameroon), Gattuso (AC Milan, Italy), Gerrard (Liverpool, England), Henry (Barcelona, France), Juninho (Lyon, Brazil), Kaka (AC Milan, Brazil), Klose (Bayern Munich, Germany), Lahm (Bayern Munich, Germany), Lampard (Chelsea, England), Marquez (Barcelona, Mexico), Messi (Barcelona, Argentina), Nesta (AC Milan, Italy), Pirlo (AC Milan, Italy), Ribery (Bayern Munich, France), Riquelme (Villarreal, Argentina), Ronaldinho (Barcelona, Brazil), Rooney (Man Utd, England), Terry (Chelsea, England), Tevez (Man Utd, Argentina), Thuram (Barcelona, France), Torres (Liverpool, Spain), Van Nistelrooy (Real Madrid, Holland), Vieira (Inter Milan, France).

Now, the likes of: Totti/Fabregas/Vidic/Ferdinand/Daniel Alves/Zlatan have been excluded...why? How the hell is Thuram in their, he hardly got into the Barca side this year, same with Marquez. Buffon? he was playing in Serie B.

Totti finished top scorer in the whole of Europe. Fabregas is the key figure for one of the best playing teams and Vidic and Ferdinand are rocks at the back, Alves is probably the best fullback right now.

Anyway, who's your pick to win?

Yea its a load of shit. Im a big critic of Totti but he does deserve a nomination. Carragher should be nominated. Ronaldinho shouldnt be there.

I dont have much time for these kind of awards. Remember, Roy Keane never got many nominations either.

I cannot also believe that Iniesta isn't nominated?

Kaka will probably win with either C.Ronaldo or Messi in 2nd place.

Kaka is the favorite to win. I'd like to see Messi win it though. Who else can score a replica of the 'Goal of the century' and the 'Hand of God' in one season. :D

It's a toss up between Kaka and Ronaldo to win IMO. How Lampard can get in there and Scholes can't is mystifying.

^to be fair he played poorly but still scored 26 goals or something. Albiet mostly from setplays. He deserves to be up there rather then some others that are mentioned.

It will probably be

1.Kaka
2.Messi
3.C Ronaldo

I would like Messi to win it..as im in love with him.

The absence of Francesco Totti from the list of nominations is an absolute disgrace. It is an insult and I can say for one that I now could not care less who wins the award because if the Roma captain’s performances did not merit his inclusion in the top 30, then I must be going insane.

Totti was top-scorer in Serie A, he was European Golden Boot Winner and was outstanding as he led Roma to the Champions League quarter-final and second place in Serie A.

Then of course there is the omission of Zlatan Ibrahimovic, who was a key protagonist in Inter winning the Scudetto last year, and has been the best player in Italy this season.

Furthermore, where is Valencia’s David Villa? Then of course there is the phenomenal Cesc Fabregas of Arsenal, who has undoubtedly been the best player in the Premiership this year, and was the Gunners’ star-man last campaign, despite some of the club's difficulties.

Either FIFA is full of clueless idiots who have never watched football in their life, or more than likely their list of choices is dictated by politics.

Gianluigi Buffon was playing in Serie B last year, while Fabio Cannavaro, a player I have worshipped for the past decade and still believe to be a world-class defender, had an awful season at Real Madrid. Deco was one of Barcelona's worst players last season - it was Iniesta carrying the midfield on his shoulders!

Juan Roman Riquelme was frozen out of the Villarreal squad and shipped off to Boca Juniors mid-season, Barcelona’s Samuel Etoo ruptured his cartilage and missed six months of the last campaign, while Inter’s Patrick Vieira also missed half of the season through injury. Inspirational indeed!

What football were these FIFA bureaucrats watching last season? How on earth can these players be picked ahead of the likes of Totti, Ibrahimovic, Toni, Fabregas and Villa?
I found this article on Goal.com pretty funny but accurate. Although not about Riquelme has he had a good 2007..just a bad end to 2006. Im guessing its for the whole year and not season?

I think Kaka should win based on both performances and winning the Champs League. I agree with those three actually.
