The Ghanaian-born DC United starlet has been heralded as world football's coming talent for nigh-on three years, despite the fact he is stillonly 16 and recently won his first international cap.
The Red Devils have continually been linked with the teenager ever since he burst onto the scene through the American youth ranks, although recent reports suggested that Premiership rivals Chelsea were close to clinching a deal with MLS for the player's signature.
Adu's agent has further fanned the flames of speculation by indicating that the two Premiership giants are locked in a battle for the player's signature.
However, whilst Ferguson admits he has had his eye on the American sensation for some time, the Scot also insisted that United have no plans to sign the forward who is keen to move to Europe in the near future.
"We are not interested in Freddy Adu," the Scot told MUTV.
"We have watched him as a youngster, but there is no interest in him at the moment."
Adu is hoping to secure a place in Bruce Arena's squad for the upcoming World Cup and further international recognition would greatly enhance his prospects of earning a work permit should he decide his future lies in England
