If you are just looking for a program that is capable of playing DVD's from any region without resetting the region protection on your DVD drive, take a look at www.videolan.org. VideoLan Client will play just about any audio or video format that you can find. It's also free.

The problem with patching your drive (if a patch is available) is that if something goes wrong, then you may end up with a rather expensive door stop. So, if you attempt to patch your drive with an unoffical firmware and something goes wrong, you will not receive any help from your drives manufacturer. For this reason, it may just be easier to use a program such as VLC (as linked above) that allows for region free playback with any drive without any modification to the firmware of your drive.

aye. the one i used called "dvd region free" was a small program that put itself in my tray, not an actual player.

edit: btw, rude as i am, i forgot to say thanks :)

firmware shouldnt go wrong..the risk is very slim (just don reset when ur updating :)). Much better than a program. And dvd drives are cheap to replace *if* u do something stupid

keep in mind, there is a difference between region-free and encoding. a region-free pal disck will still not play in most older ntsc players, for example.
