Former world darts champion Eric Bristow is standing trial, accused of assaulting his wife.
Bristow, whose darts nickname was The Crafty Cockney, is alleged to have attacked wife Jane, 43, at their luxury Staffordshire home in April.
He told North Staffordshire Magistrates' Court that he had a big row with his wife - but the the allegation that he attacked her had been made up so she would be granted a quick divorce.
Bristow said he had drunk about seven pints that evening and found his wife watching television in bed when he got home.
He challenged her and accusing her of not bothering to phone their two children for two days while she was at her uncle's funeral.
A furious row ensued.
While giving evidence, Bristow was warned by the magistrate, bench chairman Eric Bradley: "Will you refrain from calling the Crown Prosecution solicitor darling."
Bristow won the world championship five times and was made an MBE in 1989 for services to darts.
He denies one count of common assault against his wife.
The couple have been married
