Damn, Kobe!

I've never seen 62 after THREE QUARTERS; Laker record w/ 30 in the third quarter, most from a Laker since Wilt almost 40 years ago. My dad says he remembers his favorite player Elgin Baylor dropping 71 (Laker record) back in 1960, but he says he's NEVER seen anything like this. I agree with Phil's decision to keep Kobe out, but it would have been fun to see if Kobe could've gotten to 101.

My favorite stat, 62 points, ONE MORE THAN SHAQ'S CAREER HIGH

Lets see...Kobe had 0 assist, and none of the rest of his team scored double figures

This isnt a game to be proud of its a fuckin embarrassment to the league and the game of basketball.

fuck kobe and the lakers (minus phil, hes a legend)
Incredible game by Kobe. This isn't an embarrassment to the league. I dont hear anybody complaining. Not even his teammates or Coach Jackson. That is part of history. The only embarrassment should go to the Mavericks. They got beat by Kobe single handedly

Sure, 62 pts after 3 quarters is amazing, but he's a damn ball hog.
this isn't the 12 year old league where you cry about not getting the ball. this is the NBA and the primary goal is to WIN THE GAME no matter who scores the points and how many they score

^Actually, no. It differs for coaches. Good coaches don't just care about the W in the win/loss column. Larry Brown is one example, Phil another.

winning is one thing...for phil and larry, it's winning with style, and consistently....you win a championship and then you die for the next 15...thats not consistent...

larry brown now is on a sinking ship...the knicks...but still, his days with detroit were amazing....

Ok, name some things more important to them than winning.

These are PROFESSIONAL athletes. If nobody else on the Lakers is gonna do a damn thing to help the team win the game, then why not give the ball to Kobe? I'm sure none of you would be bitching if Allen Iverson, Kevin Garnett, Tim Duncan, Dwayne Wade etc had 62 points in 3 quarters and 0 assists. You all need to realize that winning is the key objective for professional sports teams. Do you think that Phil Jackson is gonna say, " Well.. we won, but we need to make sure Kobe doesn't get the ball as much as he did tonight. " Highly unlikely.

Truth is, not many of you like Kobe for whatever reason, but give the guy a BIT of respect. Maybe if he actually HAD a team to pass the ball too, then he would. But lets face it, he's the franchise player now and if nobody else on that team will step up, then that is their problem.

Well, the primary goal is to win the game, I agree, but is not the only goal. Playing the game the right way is important as well. Balance is important, which derives from teamwork. If you score more than 60% of your team's points, that's not balanced. Also, some of you, like Shocka, need to understand, that just because my reply wasn't "Props to Kobe, best player in the world, yess sirrr", it doesn't mean I don't give props or appreciate his offensive effort. I just value good teamwork more than individual efforts. Also, I never liked Kobe to begin with, but my hate for him has faded away.

The only reason "teamwork" and "balance" are of any importance and the only reason that these principles are mentioned in sports is that the team has a greater chance of winning this way. I'm not going to look for the exact statistics, but a year or 2 ago, Iverson put up 50+ points five or so times that season. His team lost every time, they won more when he scored around 30 points a game.

That's why teamwork is stressed, because the ultimate goal is winning, and you have a greater chance of winning with teamwork.
Coaches wouldn't care at all about teamwork if they knew that they had an equal chance of winning the game with one player.

So in the end, winning is all that matters and it's the sole motivation for making up things like "playing the right way", in the end "playing the right way" is giving you a greater chance to WIN.

This is not the first time he done this this year. he been doing this all year long. he takes all the shoots and trys to take game over by himself. thats what he been doing all year long. so this isnt the first time. however, 62 after three quarters no doubt is amazing. i give credits for that. but like i said he been doing this all year long so he still a selfish and greedy player. i'd understand if he does this kind of games once in a while but he does this all year long game after game and last night i guess hes shoots happend to go all in thats why it all added up to 62. if you take almost 30 shoots game after game eventually one of those games half of those field goals will all go in so you'll have big games like this here and there.

Yes, it all comes back to winning.
