Technology converting DVD to .3gp

i need to know the steps involved as well as the programs (free if possible ) needed to convert a small section of a dvd into a .3gp file to put on a phone..

the part that i need is only about a minute at the most and need this file to be as small as possible, preferably no more than 1mb

any help will be greatly appreciated and repped

Rip the DVD to mpg or avi, then do this
