Technology Command Prompt

OK, I have a question that someone here may know the answer to.

On my computer, when I go to Start>Run then type "cmd" to get to the command prompt, it comes up like this:

C:\Docume~1\

All folder names longer than 6 characters are truncated like that with the ~ symbol.

On my aunt's computer that I use when I'm over there, I do the same thing and I get

C:\Documents and Settings\

so I get the entire path without being truncated.

How can I change mine so it doesn't truncate the folder names, like hers? Do I need a difference version of DOS or something?

Do both systems run the same OS, there might be a difference between older version like win 95 and win 2000. I know that goold old dos had problems with long names and couldn't handle names windows could and they fixed it in a later windows version....but hell, how to update that, don't ask me.

They're both Dell Dimensions running XP.

I think the problem is that one is launching 'command.com' and one is launching 'cmd.exe' which are actually different but look the same. I'm going to have another look at that in the morning and try and figure it out.
