Dida was confronted by the supporter, who had invaded the pitch to celebrate Celtic’s last-gasp winner in the Rossoneri’s Champions League tie at Parkhead.
The interloper appeared to lightly brush Dida’s neck as he ran past, but after first turning around to chase him, the Brazilian then collapsed to the ground and was eventually stretchered off the field.
UEFA’s Disciplinary Committee have found Dida guilty of breaching Article 5 of their code of behaviour. The rule states that “member associations, clubs, as well as their players, officials and members, shall conduct themselves according to the principles of loyalty, integrity and sportsmanship.”
The 34-year-old has been handed a two-match suspension, thus rendering him unavailable for the home and away clashes with Ukrainian-outfit Shakhtar Donetsk.
Australian number two Zeljko Kalac will fill in between the posts until Dida is eligible return in the away game against Benfica on November 28.
Celtic have also been punished by UEFA for “poor organisation and the improper behaviour of one of their fans.” However they may deem themselves fortunate to have escaped with just a £25,000 fine and home supervision at the Champions League games for the next two years.
Milan have the right to appeal today's ruling but it remains to be seen whether they take up this option.
