he will not retire..i promise you this...
and you can make that promise how?everyone knows he's been on the fence about it for the pact couple years, and its not normal practice for a player to call a press conference during training camp to make an announcement, unless its a retirement announcement. we'll just have to wait and see

well the press conference started late but its on now. you're right, hes not retiring, just answering questions about the last game. my bad on calling it. but just because he said he's gonna finish this season, it wouldn't be the first time a player had a change of heart during the season or preseason. i think of hockey, and Brett Hull retiring 5 games into the season last year, after saying he would play the season. but i still think he should have hung it up at least 2 years ago and make room for the younger guys over there waiting behind him

he had an interesting idea for the preseason games. he was asked if he felt the preseason was too long, and he said yeah, but he suggested that instead of the system in place for most teams now, where you have the starters play for the first drive or 2 and then bring the backups, he thinks the backups should start and play the first 2 games, then let the veterans play the last 2. anyone else think thats a good idea? i thought it was interesting, and it gives more time and experience for the younger players

^^No they need to abolish pre-season games all together. Or atleast cut it down to 2. The Clinton Portis injury was the last straw for me. Back in the 70's-80's there used to be 6 pre-season games, SIX! Back in 2003 when Michael Vick got hurt in a pre-season game and was gone for 12-13 weeks, that cost Atlanta their season, and a chance for me to see him at Fed-Ex Field against the Redskins(I was looking forward to that game, very much). They need to get rid of it, guys are always training in the off-season, everyday to keep fit. It will prevent more injuries. Maybe if someone like Peyton Manning got hurt, then the NFL would actually think about it.

i seriously doubt they are going to eliminate the preseason. you're right, guys spend a lot of time practicing in the offseason, and in training camps, but you cant get the experience you need just playing against your own team. coaches need that live action of a game to really work out what is right ad what is wrong with the team. after Portis got injured he was complaining about how they should cut down the amount of preseason games to 2. well he still would have gotten hurt, so what difference would that make? there is no way to get the playing experience a team needs other than to play other teams. i'd rather see Favre's idea be integrated than to eliminate the preseason or cut it down. and don't forget, injuries can happen just as easily in training camp without even playing a preseason game. the only way to eliminate any chance of major injuries before the start of the regular season would be to just not play or practice, and obviously thats not gonna happen. of course its frustrating to see a star player go down in the preseason, but shit happens, you deal with it and move on. at least Portis isn't expected to miss any regular season games

funny that you mention missing vick at fed-ex. i went to a preseason game in 04 or 05 there against ATL, and i missed him too, cuz i dropped my friends off and looked for a parking spot. i missed, i think, almost the whole first half--at least the first quarter. i also missed all the skins' scoring except for a FG (i think they ended up with like 27 or 31 pts); it sucked.

oh, and in that 03 preseason, my friend drafted vick literally 2 hrs before he got injured. we all laughed. needless to say, we now do our drafts after all the preseason games.

im not saying favre was gonna play the entire season either...i think he'd be a little more respectful and retire at the end of the season...for the packers fans....the 2nd QB would prolly take over, and it would make sense too

Yeah, it was 05. I believe the 2nd to last pre-season game. I had free tickets and went, pretty good seats too, I was down by the Falcons bench. The last pre-season game I'll ever attend, and the last one I watched. It's a waste of time. I also drafted Vick that year a couple of days before the injury, but still made the playoffs. I believe Ray Lewis was the one who tackled him, I know the game was against the Ravens.

lol i know, well i never said he would, hence the title Brett Favre to retire? it's just to my knowledge, players don't usually call press conferences in the middle of training camp. coaches do, players dont. and the Packers website was misleading in saying Brett was making an announcement, which he didnt. my bad tho, now i look like a fool. so what else is new? ;)

edit: at least i wasn't the only one who thought that was gonna happen lol
