Marte, Mota, and Shoppach for Crisp, Riske, and Bard
First, to comment on the additional pieces. Mota, though good, has injury concerns. Riske was more than solid last year, with an ERA around 3.00 and a WHIP less than 1.000. Advantage: Boston
Bard vs. Shoppach: Though Shoppach has been considered one of our better prospects, Jason Varitek will be are catcher for many more years. It has been evident for a long time that Shoppach would be dealt. Also, he is not Major League ready. Bard is. In trading Mirabelli, Boston needed a solid backup catcher, which Bard is. Though Shoppach is younger with a higher ceiling, he doesn't fit our needs now. Advantage: Push
Crisp vs. Marte: This is the hardest for me to determine. From what it sounds like, Marte could be the next MLB superstar. The problem is that he doesn't play CF or SS. Coco does, and he's a leadoff hitter. And a damn good one at that. I don't think the Red Sox could have found a better replacement for Damon. Coco is younger, already has comparable stats (other than walks, in which he lags behind tremendously), and has a higher ceiling than Johnny. Coco will become an elite CF in the league, especially leading off for Manny and Papi. The only question I have about this is what did we give up in Marte? Advantage: TBD
Fuck yes for solving that problem.
CF - Crisp
2B - Loretta
LF - Ramirez
DH - Ortiz
RF - Nixon
C- Varitek
3B - Lowell
1B - Youkilis
SS - Gonazlez??
Now officially Wild Card eligible if this goes through.
