what is an easy way to get a better looking body, mainly pecs and abs. keeping in mind that i have no weights, no money, no regular hours at my job to get a gym membership. should i just stick with push ups and sit ups like i have been?

also i dont care about strength i just want it to look cool. yes i am shallow.

Yeah sit ups and push ups but make sure you are doing them right. Feet off the ground, arms crossed on your chest, dont lift your back off the ground just crunch. Thats why nowdays they are called crunches and not really sit ups.

Do push ups too, fingers forming a triangle with hand fingertips about an inch apart.

Push Ups wont increase you muscles that much though. Maybe you could start off with Push Ups and then after a while you could start doing weights. Do about 3 sets of 50 push ups a day.

I getting back into weight training again. I bought a bench yesterday.

how many of each should i do a day?
it's up to you. Try to do more and more with every week but when you feel you just can't do any more just stop it. Every day before I go to sleep I do 70-150 push ups (depending on how tired I am). I know it's bad to do them before sleeping but I have no other possibility.

I used to do about 200-300 a day(not all together of course).

Someone said here before that doing a load of press ups only increases your stamina. They will only build you up a certain amount. Weights is the way to go. You could get a set of weights for about 100 euros or else join the gym. i dont really like going to the gym. Too many posers around.

well people said it all before. Push ups are a way to stay in shape and all, crunches might help too....but, if u think about gainin muscles and really change your look, you'll have 2 use weights.

I bought a bench yesterday.
nice bobby, that's gonna help a lot. we talked about it in the other thread I guess.

invest in a gym membership

bench press and flys are the way to go. 2 months down the track of solid training (3 days a week, working out every muscle group in those 3 days) with incremental increases in the weights will do a lot for you. You won't be bulging in muscle, but youll have good definition and tone, which will clearly illustrate your progress, and you can continue to build on that.

abs is more to do with body fat. make sure you keep fit, and do constant ab excercises, and you will develop a nice form.

also dont forget to keep things in proportion. you must build up all your body muscles - shoulders, back, lats, etc included to stay proportioned and healthy. your back needs to be able to support the growing muscle developing on your chest.

If you want abs to show you need to lower your body fat. You can build up your abs as much as you want but it won't show a 6 pack unless you hit a certain amount of body fat. Like ill-matic said, you need to invest in a gym or buy some equipment for a home gym if you want to build muscle. Remember to work on your back muscles as well, because if you work your chest out too much you'll have bad posture.

Push ups are not over rated.

An example you can probably see, is Tupac before and after jail. He didnt hit the gym, and he said in interviews that he used to do 300 push ups a day. Hell, we even have his work out regime here somewhere.

Ive seen guys your body type do push ups and sit ups and it DOES help them. I dont think you want to be a big hulk anyway. If you're after it for the looks, definition is sexier than mass, and weights give you MASS.

You could achive a 96 Tupac or Fight Club Brad Pitt body at home with crunches and push ups if you do them properly and only incorporate weights to add resistance to them (put weights on your back or have someone sit on your back).

You dont need weights, Im convinced the whole "you can only get big with weights" has been invented by gyms to get more members. How do you think people in the olden days got big? Gyms? No.

If you want an Arnold / Hulk body, you can only get that at the gym. If you want a toned defined body, you can get that at home.

Weights add mass, but if you have nothing to begin with, you'll get enough mass to look naturally good doing push ups and by the looks of things thats the first step your skinny ass needs to take anyway ;) Do your home routine, get defined, and then when you reach that and decide you want to go bigger join a gym THEN, but at least then you will have a decent foundation to work off of and you wont burn your arms out after 10 reps and waste your membership fees.

If you want to get a nice chest, put your feet on the bed in your room or even higher somewhere else and do push ups, that will target your upper pecks and build your chest out.

Normal push ups for arms.

Pull ups for back.

Chair dips for triceps, or if you dont have chairs, sit on the edge of your bed, hands on the bed next to you and slide your ass forward and off, lift your body with your arms.

Abs, PROPER crunches. Research how to do them properly.

I suggest you do everything until you cant do it anymore.

Lifting heavy stuff and doing hard manual work. Body fat has a LOT to do with what a person looks like. Brad Pitt in Fight Club probably had 4% body fat. Push ups are good if you want to do a shitload of them and burn calories, but if you want to build strength you use weights.

See of of course push ups do help, but it depens on what you want. To lift weights add muscles, u make it sound as if i was easy 2 become a Hulk - and it's not. It's not black and white - but it's a fact that if you want to build up some (and some is far far far far away from Hulklike lookin) weights gonna help you.....

another point that is underestimated is that u save time by usin weights/goin to the gym. With the right routine it's enough 2 work out 2-3 times a week for an hour, 1.5 hours and you'll see major success. Of course to do pushups 3 times a week will help too, but if you compare the success after let's say 6 weeks gym wins every time when done right.

anyway he should start with push ups. Like Rukas said, starting with a gym will end up tiring his arms after few reps.
I'd train at home for 2-3 months to gain some muscle stamina and that minimum of strenght and then start going to gym if he wants to. But on the other hand it's a shame to go to the gym and lift like 10 kilos and getting tired after 2 reps. So if you do so, be sure that nobody's watching :D

so it's better to start with home training (just quite intensive and systematic) and then eventually add gym

Push-ups will help build you up a little bit but it's gonna take much longer to do so than if you just lift weights. Rukas you seem kinda confused, push-ups don't give you definition, definition is achieved by a low bf%. If he wants a toned look the easiest and fastest way to achieve that is without question to lift some weights and stick to a sensible diet.
