No other player with at least 450 career home runs has seen an almost .200 point jump from one season to the next in his slugging percentage past the age of 35 (with the exception of Jimmie Foxx, who was injured one season, playing in only 15 games, and then bounced back the next year).

From 2000 to 2001 when he was turning 36, Bonds* slugging percentage jumped .175 points, an unprecedented number.

In 2001 he switched to a different, harder, bat. That could be cause for this "jump." Just throwing things out there.

And that list actually shows the numbers gradually getting better so...... yeah.

People can argue over numbers all they want I guess.

Ted Williams showed that the size of the bat is less important than the speed at which you can swing it.

Of course if you're taking steroids and can swing a heavier bat even faster than the lighter one you used before, then you'll switch over to it.

Um...... no. From 1992-1999, his AB/HR fluctuate slightly, but stay right around his average of 12.756 for that time period. Two years later, at age 36, he suddenly cuts that in half.

He also shaves off more than 7 PA/HR (from 16.142 to 9.096) from 1992-1999 average to 2001, so don't point to the increase in walks either.

”So he smashed McGwire’s ill-gotten record for homers in a season, and then he set his sights on the most hallowed milestone in sports. Last night in San Francisco he stole that record from the great Hank Aaron with a solo shot off Washington’s Mike Bacsik. In San Francisco, thousands of soulless toadies took great delight in Bonds’ tainted achievement, but beyond the bay, the moment was met with almost universal disgust. Perhaps the only legitimate record set last night was: most eyewitnesses to a crime in human history.“ -- 8.8.07, Gerry Callahan, Boston Herald
