Can't believe there hasn't been a thread about this yet!
It's that time of the year again, one of the most anticipated matches of the season is about to take place, more precisely, this Sunday. (Surprised there's not a topic yet when last year it was made approximately one week before the match)
Real Madrid visits Camp Nou leading La Liga with a 4 point difference from Barcelona and a guaranteed Champion of the winter title regardless of the result.
This is the first time Schuster (right in the picture) will sit in the bench for a Clasico although he's played in a couple in his time in both Barcelona and Real Madrid. Rijkaard (left in the picture) of course, has already had his fair share of Classico's to deal with!
Both managers have a bit more in common than being coaches of the most historic La Liga rivals. They both had a notable career as footballers in the 80s, both known for their technique and polyvalency, they will surely be the center of attention for a lot of nostalgic viewers.
Barcelona, who don't know what losing is at home since 34 matches, and who have always scored in Camp Nou for 54 matches straight will recieve a Real Madrid with an on form Ruud, who seems to have made a habit of scoring out of home (22 of his 31 goals last season where away from the Bernabeu).
This year's El Clasico will be host of quite a few first timers of the historic match, some of them used to these kind of rivalries and clashes, like Henry an Heinze, and others that want to prove their worth in the biggest stage like Robben, Abidal.
We also have those who have changed bands, El Clasico wouldn't be El Clasico with at least one of those. Players like Celades, Alfonso, Schuster, Ronaldo, Laudrup, Luis Enrique (see picture above) and of course the bastard that is Luis Figo know what it is to play El Clasico from both ends, and Saviola will feel the same if he gets to play.
Very little is known about the possible line ups at this point, but by the looks of it Ronaldinho and Deco from Barcelona and Guti from Real Madrid will most likely be starting from the bench, and with Messi already having been ruled out with a leg injury he got in last week's Valencia game (0-3 win for Barcelona) this surely is a pity for neutral fans and fans of Jogo Bonito.
Two days left for the game and I personally can't wait. Barcelona are probably the team who have more at stake, but I'm sure Real Madrid know that whoever wins this game will get a very valuable boost in their morale, something that could help immensely for the comeback after Christmas.
Thoughts please!
