once video and audio is compressed/encoded using a lossy format. The quality is lossed forever. Avi is not neccessarily a lossy format. Avi quality depends which compresser was used to encode the video because there is not a standard avi file. They go from uncompressed to heavy compressed. but if your avi's are poor quality then there is nothing you can do to help them.

the only thing I can think of you could do is, ichange the aspect ratio and re-encode them. I don't think this will help. Like I said before was its lossed its lossed forever. This includes mpg, wmv, and avi. There all like that.
