PHOENIX (AP) - Federal authorities contacted a Phoenix sports bar owner during their investigation of former NBA referee Tim Donaghy, her attorney said Monday.

Glendale-based attorney Robert G. Robinson said investigators called Cheryl Wolfe-Ruiz, 41, several weeks ago but haven't talked to her since Donaghy pleaded guilty to two federal felony conspiracy charges. Court papers say Donaghy began placing bets on NBA games in 2003.
The New York Post first reported in Monday's editions that federal investigators approached her.

Robinson said he had not spoken to the authorities either, and he doesn't expect them to call.

"Now that he has entered a plea, I don't see why they would want to contact her," Robinson said. "They haven't followed up on it."

Robinson refused to describe the relationship between Wolfe-Ruiz and Donaghy, who is married, although he confirmed the New York Post report that the referee had given Wolfe-Ruiz and her boyfriend tickets to a Phoenix Suns game last season.

Robinson said Wolfe-Ruiz has no plans to speak publicly about Donaghy.

"My hope is that this thing is going to blow over in a week or two and she can get on with her life," he said.
