Have you actually sat down and used a Macintosh computer? It doesn't sound like you have. If you think that there maybe problems finding applications, take a look at http://www.versiontracker.com. Browse through their OS X archive and you will notice that there are plenty of programs to do just about every task. Now, if you were strictly refering to games, then you are correct and you have a valid argument. Otherwise, I don't think that there is much that I cannot do that my PC using friends can... Also, there are no OS X virii at this point in time. The closest thing to a virus that is currently available is a root kit, which is a Unix program. Since OS X is built upon Unix, OS X is also vulnerable to Unix malware. However, this root kit does not appear to have harmed many Macintosh users.

WCsoul,

I recommend that you take a look at an Apple system in person. Whether you have an Apple using friend or goto an Apple store. This will allow you to see if an Apple computer is capable of satisfying your needs in a home computer. It cannot hurt to take a look after all.

And here I thought you actually knew something about computers...moron.

WCSoul, what specifically will you be doing with the computer? I want to get a better idea if the ibook is good or not good for you. You need it for papers? gaming? graphics?

yea its just my opinion though. I actually bought a power mac g5 not too long ago. I was so frustrated with it.I couldnt do alot of things I used to do on the PC. And the price i payed for it I could have bought 3 pcs,so it wasnt worth it. I ended returning it to the store after 2 weeks.

Mac is designed with an interface that's easy to use. I say it's only good for people new to computers and who like simple things and only use the simple everyday programs like word processor, internet.

BUT you will end up spending alot of money for something that isnt even that fast. And good luck trying to find software that does what you used to do on the pc.Yeah the basic programs you'll find, but specific software is a bitch to find for the mac.

For example, people who use stock trading software WILL not be able to use the pc equivalence on the mac. And substitute programs are out of the question because these software(the ones for the pc) are the basics in the market and theres no mac version.Anything else is pure garbage.

I can name alot of different categories for you,but i'm just making a point.

Also games.Hard to find, most of the big hits are not for mac.

like i said, macs are only good for using basic apps and for graphics. id like someone to prove me wrong.

with pc you can do anything and everything.its not like mac has some software we dont have for the pc,its the other way around. mac is limited.

I don't suggest you go to a store that sells mac's and talk to someone there to fill you in on them. They will just feed you bullshit to buy it.Do your own research before you decide. Get the pocket ready cuz its gonna cost you,its gonna cost you now and in the long run.when u decide u want a specific program later on,you're gonna wish you never bought it....

an apple can do anything a pc can do and more - you just have to know where to look for the right tools. if you want a typewriter, buy a pc. if you want to do graphic, music, or video work, get a mac.

if you're married to the idea of still running windoze, you can on a mac. can windoze say the same (mac on xp)? i run virtual pc on a mac and i get very good speed on my windoze system.

oh yeah - there are NO viruses for macs. why? because mac users are team players who don't follow the constraints set in place by mr. gates.

i have used a mac since the first one came out and i'm not looking back.

so an unbiased opinion there? :p

It is 2005 and we can no longer think with 1990's rationale because things have changed since then dramtically. The fact is PC's have better and faster CPU's then MACs. They have better and faster Graphics than MAC's. They have better Sound cards than Macs. Insinde the BOX PC's have better hardware than MACs period. This is because PC's are the industry standard and MACs are Proprietary systems. The Only place where MACs are better than PC's is their operating system. Becuase MACs have a better OS than PC's they are more stable than Windows. But that doesn't make them more stable than UNIX or Linux OS that run on PC hardware.

1ghz of macintosh power will run laps around 1ghz of pc power. you can't rely on cross platform numbers because they are not a fair comparison (which is why you don't buy a 10ghz radio shack special for $200). if you've ever dealt with car aurio, a jensen 1000w rms will never touch the continuous power and purity of a precision power 250w rms. same deal.

mac's run more efficiently than windoze, and yes, more stable. tiger enhances this, and my startup time is now 5 seconds with a great deal more efficient allocation of resources as i do hard math (video processing while surfing and downloading a dvd-r for ex).

the only limitation with macs in comparison to pc's is the lack of developers in the pool. pc users have a larger variety of software options, but they also have to deal with the perils of this. there is no spyware, adware, or virii that will infect your mac. none. programs are all self-contained, eliminating the need for an uninstaller and "shared" resources that are scattered all over your c: drive. while we may have fewer options, we take a safer and cleaner course.

i'm not saying pc's are trash, because they're not - but if you want to do anything multimedia related you owe yourself the favor of checking out what a mac can do. i mean shit, take a real hard look back at the evolution of windows. gates jacked the idea of a mouse and clickable windows from jobs and co. and each windows revision looks more and more like a mac. xp looks like aqua 9.2. wait for the next release, i bet you'll see a dock, widgets, and a mac-style organization scheme that eliminates the endless clutter of your system drive. screw partitions, bill, keep a clean house and you won't need a sloppy foundation.

Im basically gonna use it for essays and shit...mostly school and internet aswell. Lots of music too. Theyre giving away "garage band"....that music producting program? That a nice little perk right there. Mix some 2pac shit...u know ;) No games, i dont like computer games...all im gonna put on that shit is good ol' Starcraft...that games dope.

Theres this new store that opened up. An actual Apple Macintosh store up in Yorkdale Mall here in T-dot. 1st one in Canada apparently. I wanna check this shit out. Maybe get a store credit card and pay 30 bucks a month. I used to have a mac...back in the day...way back...did the job i guess.

Im thinking i got tired of PCs. Seems so cluttered and disorganized. Spywares another bieetch too. My browser keeps crashing. Good read Dante and Get In The Van I Have Candy, what do u think? Im thinkg the 12" iBook. Thats all i need i guess. Or spend a bit more and get the 14".

since mac's are pricey (even used ones), i'd buy according to use. 12" will get pretty small with a few windows open, so i'd go with the 14". if you qualify or know anyone who does, definitely take advantage of the edu discount. it varies, but i got a couple hundred taken off my 1,800 machine.

A couple of points to keep in mind. When you apply an educational discount, Apple does not check whether you are actually a student. If you don't feel like going that route, you can become an ADC member (Apple's developers program) even if you are not a programmer. It will cost some money, I think a couple hundred dollars, but you will get a larger discount on the computer itself. So, this might be useful for you. You can also look into a refurbished model, which often times are fairly good deals since they carry an Apple warranty. You also might try checking http://www.dealmac.com if you decide to purchase a Mac. They list all sorts of deals for Apple products if you order online.

Steve Jobs should be assasinated so he can't compete with Bill The King of The Computer World Gates.

Buy a Mac if:

1. You have a lot of money.
2. You're pretty much interested in multimedia applications and little else.
3. If you don't care too much about being isolated from much of the world. Don't get me wrong. The Mac world has grown, and its pretty big, but buying a PC is like learning to speak English. Everyone already speaks English and and you do more with the English language. Buying a Mac is like learning German...not that many people use it.

Lets say a friend says "check this out..," its likely that whatever he's offering won't work on your Mac.

4. If you love beauty. Mac's are unbelievably beautiful. In fact, I themed my Windows XP to look like Mac, simply because I love its appearance. I want to completely re-do my laptop so that it looks like a PowerBook or an iBook.
