Angels/White Sox Game 10/12

Who saw this? that call by the umpire was completely unfair, the game should have gone into extra innings... i've been saying that this was going to be a great series but this just made it completely unfair... and this is coming from someone who did not care for either team

I haven't seen it yet, but I read about it, and I know that MANY fans are displeased with what happened. I'll have to watch the sports highlights.

The ump called him out. The play should have been dead. Thats why the catcher went to his bench.

Although after seeing countless replays, it does look like the ball hit the ground at the same time in went in the glove.

The umps fucked up big time here.

time to "defend" my team again...

as a white sox fan, i will be the first to admit that it appears Josh Paul DID catch the ball. even with the close-up replay which showed that there was a direction change, the change was probably just caused when it hit the lip of the glove. that being said...

i'm on the fence here. on one hand, i hate having my teams win controversial games, or games on bad calls. i would have been more content with them just getting out of that inning with no runs, and then winning in extras. that way the call wouldn't have mattered.

on the other hand, the umps made the call, not the white sox. the sox just simply took advantage of the opportunity that was given to them. i liken this to the steelers/pats game when there was a minute added to the clock--just enough time for the pats to win on a FG. as much as i dislike the pats, i can't be mad at them for winning. they just took advantage of the opportunity...what were they supposed to do--sit there and run out the clock?

finally, it all comes down to this...if the sox win in seven games then the angels have a right to be upset. they could argue that they might have won that game and therefore the series (or the sox could have still won in extras). but if the sox just win from here on out, or in 6, then there's really not much of an argument, seeing that LAAA didn't win the other ones either.

just my two cents.

well i don't think anyone's mad at the white sox, it's not like it was their fault and they had every right to go on and win the game... i just find it fucked up that a game has to end like that... i enjoy watchin the games and stuff but when something like this happens it just taints the series... u know what im sayin...

i know exactly what you're saying...like i said, it probably would've been better if they hadn't scored and just won in extras. then it would be over, no controversy. and yes, unfortunately, it does taint the series, even if the sox when in 5, this is what will be remembered.

^^^if that's the case, yeah it will soon be irrelevant (to THIS series), but i don't think it will be forgotten. it's gonna change the way catchers play: they're gonna always at least tag the batter if it's unsure if they caught it, just in case. although many people disagree with letting replay into MLB, this is gonna be a strong argument for it. that being said...GO WHITE SOX!
